TWO POSTS IN ONE What a wild week it has been since we left Durban. We drove the first day about 100 kilometers to a town called Umzumbe. It was a bit harrowing as we left Durban with more than ΒΌ tank of gas but on our approach to Umzumbe we were below the empty line with the fuel needed indicator on. To complicate matters people couldnt understand when we asked for the nearest fuel station. ... Read Full Entry

White Russians- good choice! It seems like the absolute most random drink to pick under the circumstances. I like the image though; especially with the tree houses all around. Almost oki like in a sense :) and hey, congrats on the run! That's fantastic, especially considering the lack of training. Muscle memory right!? Stay healthy and good luck along the next leg. Sounds like you and Laura are doing great. Cheers, -LB (Alyssa)

Capetown and Stellenbosch
I am glad you sent that note that jolted me to read both blogs. Capetown brings back memories of a difficult time in S.A. history. I had taken to cable car up to the Table Top mountain. It was a beautiful site on one hand, looking at Capetown below and the Atlantic Ocean, but on the other .'hand, we saw the island where Nelson Mandela was jailed. The year was 1978. I saw signs saying 'no blacks allowed on this beach.' So as I have read from you, the 'times they are a changn.' I see that you went down to the Cape of Good Hope, not a big beach as I remember, but from the top of the hill is the point where the Atlantic Ocean and the Indian Ocean come together sometimes peacefully and sometimes not. I clearly remember seeing a not so straight line where the two collided with each other causing turbulence or swirling of the waters. Stellenbosch is beautiful and it is the place where I was trying to remember for you to stop at. So I am happy that you did. There was a church, I believe, which had all its' windows with stained glass. Back then, during riots, the windows had to be protected with a bullet-proof type of covering. I love S.A. wines. Laura, I really fine your blog interesting, since health education and prevention has been forte. So when you visit with people, I am curious about what they learn in school or elsewhere about alcohol and HIV. Looking forward to your next entries. MM
