Bar-crawling in Long Street
Published: October 31st 2012Africa » South Africa » Western Cape » Cape TownAsk anyone that lives or has ever visited Cape Town what the most popular street in all of Cape Town is, and they will say: "Long Street of cause".The street as everything from stalls to banks, to cafes to old, but like really old english pubs, clothing stores to bars with crazy shooter's specials, and lets not forget the night clubs. The annual Carnival and New Years Eve bash also gets hosted in this street. Many people say Long Street comes alive at night, but from my own personal experience, and by personal experience I mean drinking Chilli Tequilas at Bob's Bar at 11am, resulting in a friend going into the men's toilet instead of ladies, another friend spilling endless amounts of shooters (that we didn't pay for, free drinks, extra friendly people helllooooo), basically crawling ... read more

Camps Bay, Oh Camps Bay
Published: October 31st 2012Africa » South Africa » Western Cape » Cape Town » Camps BayVisiting Cape Town wouldn't be complete without visiting its beautiful beaches, and I wanted to soak up the sun, and drink my cocktail on no other beach then the most talked about Camps Bay. With its spectacular views of Lion's Head and the Twelve Apostles and its fine white sand its no suprise that its packed with beautiful people, especially over weekends and during holidays. Camps Bay’s long stretch of beach is perfect for sunbathing and its open flatness means that team activities like Frisbee and social beach volleyball can also be enjoyed by the more active visitors. Students such as myself love the Camps Bay vibe, with its bars and restuarants and even night clubs such as the popular renewed St. Yves along the beach, if we find something to occupy our time with or ... read more

Cape Town 9, 10, 11 September 2012
Published: October 10th 2012Africa » South Africa » Western Cape » Cape TownCape Town 9, 10, 11 September 2012 We had 3 more nights in Cape Town, staying at the Adderly Hotel on Adderly Street which was not far from the Waterfront. The rooms were extremely well appointed, with beautiful fittings, large comfortable bed, large bathroom and kitchen facilities. 9 September – took the hop-on-hop-off bus option to see the general sites of the City, including around their beautiful beaches. That night we went to the Alfred & Victoria Waterfront (known as the A&V Waterfront) for dinner, and caught up with our tour group again. It was good to catch up again as we were all not as tired as our last night on tour, so we reminisced over another beautiful meal. The Victoria & Alfred Waterfront, built on top of part of the docks of the Port ... read more

Published: October 12th 2012Africa » South Africa » Western Cape » Cape TownTable Mountain, Cape Town, morning of 11 September 2012 We woke up and looked out the window, to see a very clear day – perfect to go up to Table Mountain. We tried to go to a different place for breakfast each morning so this was no exception. Table Mountain, with its near vertical cliffs and flat-topped summit over 1,000 m high, and with Devil’s Peak and Lion’s Head on either side, together form a dramatic mountainous backdrop enclosing the central area of Cape Town, the so-called City Bowl. As we saw yesterday, a thin strip of cloud, known colloquially as the "tablecloth", sometimes forms on top of the mountain. To the immediate south, the Cape Peninsula is a scenic mountainous spine jutting 25 miles southwards into the Atlantic Ocean and terminating at Cape Point, where ... read more

Township Tour and Off to Wine Country!
Published: November 3rd 2012Africa » South Africa » Western Cape » Cape TownDisclaimer: all historical stuff listed here is from our guide, no fact checking has been done. 1949 was the first year of apartheid, today we went on a city and township tour with Owen to learn more about the people and history.
