A transit day today. The drive to Cape Town is about 15 hours. We are staying overnight in a place called Beaufort West. There is nothing much to say about the journey apart from the fact that the road is straight and stretches for miles and miles in front of you. Roger has been really good during this SA adventure as he has done all the driving and we have really covered some miles in little Hercules, our hire car. The smallest car in Africa but with the strength of a lion, especially going up some of the mountainous roads we have travelled, when I was really expecting to have to get out and push.
Arrived at Beaufort West travel weary. Checked into our “Country Lodge” and our first impressions were, oh my goodness, this is like the Bates Motel in Psycho. Only difference, we didn’t have a shower, only a bath and no plug!!!!
Beaufort West is a one horse Town. Well it’s a one of everything really. One shop, one bar but apart from that quite historic. Fortunately this is only a stopover for us. Off to Kalk Bay tomorrow. Hoping to fit in a trip to Hermanus for
whale watching, Boulders Beach for penguins, Cape Point, a couple of wine tours and oh yes, going to try and get a couple of tickets for the World Cup semi final. The adventure’s not over yet.
