CHEETAH PARK
FEEDING FRENZY After the quadbiking the day before it was pretty much a chill out day for me today, internet and a quiet lunch at the Ocean View Reastaurant near th beach and had the best fresh oysters so far. Also went to visit th Crystal Gallery, very interesting pieces of rocks.
As we get ready for dinner there was power outtage in the hostel, it comes on and off sems like there is a short circuit somewhere, some cooked dinner and some had take outs... we went out to eat at the Cairo restaurant. We came back to the hostel to find Craig, Bry and Dave playing cricket in th hallway.
The next morning ran for an hour at the beach again with Andy and Craig, at a faster rate than I am accustomed to, struggled a bit but made it. We left Swakopmund around 9ish, in my hurriedness, I left in th bathroom my megalodon tooth necklace and my running shorts, was very dissapointed but nothing i can do now. we visited th seal colony near Walvis Bay, you can smell it from a distance, it was cold so not as bad. Then off for lunch and drove through
TWYFELFONTEIN
ANCIENT PETROGLYPHS SITE th Skeleton coast national park, it was almost 7pm when we got out of the park on the other end and is much warmer, due to the desert wind. Bush camped just outside of the park, as we are putting tents up we saw a big scorpion that made brian scream like a girl. The driftwood w pickd up for firewood stank really bad and we were quite relieved to use as much of it during the night.
Next morning on our way to a Cheetah farm where w will camp for 2 nights w stopped by the cave paintings and th Petrified forest. Th cave painting tour was boring so I decided to skip the Petrified forest and just played frisbees with th others outside while waiting for people to com back. I remember the wonderful sunset and the cold ride once again.. there was a pool at the Cheetah farm which we utilized, the water is very cold, woke me up from my hang over from the night before, had too much beer and played silly dart games with Craig and Dave and Chris as we get drunk, 501, round the world, eyes closed competition, the long
distance and 3 at a time shooting, childish but w entertained ourselves, ended up bing the Champion overall, whohooo...In the afternoon went to see the Cheetahs in the house of the camp's owner, they are tame and we took some photos but still we feel a bit apprehensiv as this are still wild animals. The baby giraffe that took refuge in their hours was really funny and kept following us. Drago and another truck arrived to stay for the night. The bar was a lot liveleier, but each group is quite clicky to each other and we did not have much chat with the others..
Early departure the next morning at 530 am very cold again, drove out to Outjo for food shopping then drove on to Etosha National Park, we saw a few animals as we drive along towards the campsite, elephants, springboks, ostriches, oryx, squirrels..Our cook group made a nice chicken casserole type dish, this maybe Dave's last cooking with us. After dinner we went to the waterhole to see the animals drink water, we saw a couple of rhinos, jackals, after going back to bed Craig told me they saw lions as well, crap!!! Game drive the
SWAKOPMUND
ACROBATS IN THE HOSTEL HALLWAY next morning but did not see much.Went back to camp set up breakfast and put the tents down, we drove on to Halili campsite within the park, on our drive there was saw elephants. Arrived midday and immediately went for a swim in what was so far the best pool we've seen, cold refreshing water..
Another game drive in the afternoon, and at night went to the waterhole where we saw a bull elephant come out from nowhere to drink, enormous and very quite, such an impressive site!! A few more rhinos.. An elderly woman was somewhat ditracted she fell over as she tries to maneuver to get to a seat in front of us. It was really embarrasing as she pretends it did not hurt, sh was actually alright, and the incident would have been forgotten had it not for Craig who burst out laughing as he could not contain himself and ended up leaving the viewpoint, we thought he was feeling ill, Andy whispered to me why he had to go, i found him in our tent still chuckling, bastard!!!
Last campsite we will visit is Namitoni, we did not see much animals, we met up again with
WALVIS BAY
SEAL COLONY another truck this time Acacia. On or way out of the Park we saw lots and lots of giraffes, the camp was quite nice but we did not stay for long. We are trying to reach Grootfontein today to pick up Tony's passport renewal at a farm. Then we visited a meteorite where we also stayed for the night at it's campsite. Another long drive ahead of us, w ended up staying at a picnic stop for the night and a Wildlife officer guy stopped to have a char with us, we are not allowed to camp there but w stayed anyway. Lightning was all over the horizon, we did our exercise in the tarmac road risking life and limb, while the girls did their yoga.
N.B.
The computer here in Karatu is stupidly slow so I cant put as much Etosha photos as I would like, sorry Jacob and Liora...
