In the morning, at first light I finally managed to get the bike out and go for a cycle. This was good and bad, good because it was a really nice time to be cycling as the roads were quiet and the valley looked amazing. But bad because I ahd forgotten about the altitude we had reached, plus the up hill was a killer, but once at the top the veiw was excellent, just like the high speed ride back down. The rest of the day made a slow start to the day as I tried to dry my washing, which had sat in the tub for a bit too long. So while Mark and Alan had a walk around the town and its shops I hung the washing out. This only partially dried it as it was still wet by midday, so I bagged it up ready for the next time we stopped at a campsite.
All paid up we headed for the other end of the gorge du Dades, as the top end of the gorge was an off road route. This route started off down the side of a hill, then ran across a dry river bed.
Once again the sights where amazing. Then we hit traffic, not trucks or cars, but herds of goats and a couple of old men with there donkeys. They all kindly let us through, but after a while we decided to have a cuppa, and by the time the damn kettle had boiled the first herd had just walked past us. Luckly we had enough time to drink before the second herd engulfed us so we moved on. The other fascinating thing about this route was that there seemed to be nothing for miles around, and suddenly a young child would appear out of nowhere, or there would be a tent pitched on a hillside.
The route ended on the road which takes you through the Gorges du Todra so we travel down it again. This time when we parked in the carpark the guys that had tried to sell us things recognised us, realised there wouldn't be a sale and so ignored us. While parked up we looked at a couple of campsites, one an hour away in a town called Goulmima and the next, two hours away, just incase we disliked the first.
Once we found the
place it was pretty well set that this would be fine as it has a nice swimming pool and a mini zoo! Granted the zoo was no Howletts as it consists of three sheep and a donkey, but the pool is excellent and we have the entire site to ourselves. So first thing this morning, after hanging the washing back out and a bit of breakfast, we wandered in to town for a few supplies. The main road has a fare few shops on it, but when you start to explore the back streets you find hundreds of smaller shops all over the place. Shopping done it was time for the pool which seemed bloddy freezing at first, but was fine and quite refreshing so we spent the rest of the morning there till it was too hot, so we headed back to the trucks for a bit of lunch.
Once its cooled down a little I'll have to force myself to go back to the pool as it looks like we'll be staying here another night. Damn, thats a shame.
