The goats on the Argon Tree
Our taxi driver Mohammad drove us to Essaouira
From Marrakech.
No English no Spanish no French, he only spoke Berber and Moroccan Arabic, it was difficult to communicate with him. Sign language along with my limited Arabic vocabulary was a little helpful.
But he drove us safe to and from Essaouira.
He took a couple of smoke breaks at some tea house along the way. The highway between Marrakech and Essaouira is quite straight forward.
The landscape is arrid and spread with olive and Argon tree groves.
In a couple of locations along the highway the Shepard’s encourage their goats to climb the Argon tree to eat its fruits and when people such as ourselves stop to take pictures of this unusual scene they ask us to pay them.
It is hilarious and worth the 10 Derham.
Essaouira Was originally a Berber fishing port and subsequently was fortef by the Portuguese
It has a relaxed feel to it
In the 60’s it attracted and still attracts the hippies and their prodigies and the Laissez Faire vibe
It is a pleasant city
Great weather white washed buildings with blue window shutters
The Portuguese bastions afford great views of the ocean

port and its auction hall are quite impressive
The scene is more dramatic and picturesque with the blue wooden fishing boats docked at the marina with the Portuguese fort in the back drop
The fish is freshly caught
Along the entry to the Médina there are these kiosks where you can choose your fish and They will barbecue it for you.
We ordered quite a bit and it was delicious
Just for that we would go back to Essaouira!!!
