Yes - Geoff's bizarre collection of school-boy French came in handy during our short trip south from Toliara to the remote beach of Anakao and the Heaven's opened allowing him to legitimately use the everyday phrase of "it's a deluge!". Unseasonably high winds and a pretty incredible thunderstorm were combined with cockroaches in the bed to make for a rather brief visit. Anyway, we survived - not quite the relaxing few days away from the city we expected, but it wasn't all bad as you can see from the pics and as our bags weren't some of those that fell in the sea we can't really complain!

We're off to the dive project tomorrow on a 12-24 hour trip by sailing boat to Andavoadaka, which is apparently an expedition in itself.... We are fully stocked with ketchup and jam on the advice of the organisers, who recommend taking such things to vary the diet from rice and beans! Geoff shall be known as Ricky Martin after this mornings successful haircut at the local coiffeur shed, where the only instructions to the barber were 'number 2' and pointing at the Ricky Martin poster on the wall... Unfortunately he doesn't look exactly
"I photographed a Vazaha!""I photographed a Vazaha!"
"I photographed a Vazaha!"

Local kids find out how easy photography is these days with Geoff's camera!
like Ricky, but not bad considering there was a power cut half way through... Lexa legged it when they offered to cut off here plaits!

So, thanks for reading - next update won't be for 6/7 weeks that's assuming we have survived the Tiger sharks and large number of snakes that apparently inhabit the area!

Take it easy - hope you are all enjoying the sun back in the UK.

Geoff Long and Lexa Wokersien
Hi there everybody, We hope you enjoy reading about our exploits whilst we're on our 16 month BIG TRIP. Many people have asked why we are going and in an attempt to explain here is a quote from the famous British explorer Eric Shipton. "In these days of upheaval and violent change, when the basic values of today are the vain and shattered dreams of tomorrow, there is much to be said for the philosphy which aims at living a full life while the opportunity offers. There are few treasures of more lasting worth than the experience of a way of life that is itself wholly satisfying. Such, aft... full info

Thinking of Home?
Look at Mums web page and see Pebbles the new member of the family. Mitzie not too impressed. Also see Mum's knitted carrots in the world's largest knitted garden as seen on BBC Spotlight this evening.
