This morning Gideon and I set off on a 4 hour turned 6 hour road trip to Kumasi, it is so called Kumasi because the Ashanti king planted two trees called Kuma trees, one died and the other lived, the one that lived was called Kumasi.

Another bit of history, a bit of girl power, 50 years ago a young brave ghanain woman led the battle of independence against the British and won! go girlie!

So we set off, on good roads and really bumpy dirt tracks because the government cant make up their minds if they want to spend their money on the roads or their nice new offices (picture coming up soon) we passed many villages and a radio station discussed the desperate need for medical staff, I asked Gideon, what happens if you need a doctor if you live out here? he laughed, "there are clinics but if you need to go to hospital then you need to go to the big towns" So I asked about giving birth "Ahhh there are birthing assistants that come to your home so you can give birth at home" Gideons wife did need to have a cesearean section, at the time they lived in Tarkwar, it took them 4 hours to get to Accra for each of his children, he found this scary. It is amazing what things we take for granted in our country.

We stopped for lunch at a rest stop where we had sandwiches, I couldnt finish mine, and in true African style Gideon said "but you are plump, you know big, fat surely you can finish it" I laughed and said, "Victor Said exactly that and I will tell you what I told him - When you come to the UK dont say that to any woman because you are likely to get slapped" He laughed and said "oh dont you like being told that?" I shook my head to which he replied "my wife is fat and women here like to be fat it is popular" Well not in the UK it is not .... saw the most amazingly colourful geckcho he was blue and red- so fitting for Ghana full of colour - FAB

Arrived in Kumasi and met Glenn in the Kumasi branch and he teased Gideon - told him to repent his sins for calling me fat for which Gideon found funny (thankfully) and then we headed to the hotel.

it has a monkey tied in a cage outside it for entertainment hmmmmmm and the internet is ok on the PC in the reception unfortunately the security on my laptop will not allow me to access the wifi in this hotel - looking forward to getting starded on the HSE actions tommorow with Glenn

photos will be coming soon
