Tuesday we went on a tour of the city. First we went to Deok Su Gung Palace. WOW!! This was originally the home of King Seongjong's elder brother Prince Wolsan. However, after all palaces in Hanyang, now Seoul, had been burned down during the Japanese Invasion of 1592, Deoksugung was used as a temporary palace. The palace was used as a royal palace for 7 years until 1615. Then the royal palace was moved to Changdeokgung. When Emperor Gojong returned in 1897 he lived there even after he handed over the throne. From that time on this palace was known as Deoksugang, which means of the Palace of Virtue and Longevity in the spirit of praying for a long life for Emperor Gojong.
