Woke up this morning freezing. Ray had forgotten to turn up the heater before going to bed, but as soon as he did it was quite toasty. The boys came over for breakfast this morning and we discussed modifying our route so we could spend a little more time in certain locations. Not being able to take the Alaska Highway from Dawson Creek, and having to head West instead, added more miles to our trip. We reached the end of the Cassier Highway yesterday, and are now on the Alaska Highway (Alcan). They say there is a lot of wildlife on this highway, and we saw our first bear of the day shortly after leaving the campground. The bear did not seem frightened at all so we finally got some nice pictures. The weather started off ... read more
spending the night at 40 degrees

Left the Ft. Fraser campground at 7:45 today, topped off the tank, (About $4.60 per gal), and continued on the Yellowhead Highway to the Cassier Highway. I was very disappointed last night that the campground laundry was closed since our laundry is starting to pile up. Desperate times call for desperate measures, so I resorted to washing our underwear by hand in the sink. We had them hanging all over the camper, very attractive. I'm not optimistic about finding one in the next couple of campgrounds on the Cassier, but in the meantime we'll have clean undies. Ray said that we should be able to get four wearings out of each, front, back and inside out...I think NOT! After leaving Fraser it did not take us long to get back to the rolling hills and some ... read more

Today is supposed to be a great day, especially for Ketchikan where it rains something like 260 days per year! There was no rain in the forecast and the temperature was upper 50s. We woke up before 8am, got ready and went up for our usual breakfast. I took a couple of photos of the ship pulling into port, but they didn't turn out that well, because the window was dirty. We both got blueberry pancakes with whipped cream and a ham and cheese omelet. Manoli also got some fruit. By 10am we were off the ship and started wandering around. We'd heard that the Creek Street district was definitely worth seeing, so that is the first place we went. This was the original part of Ketchikan, and where the women owned all the houses, mostly ... read more

Okay, finally have internet so I can post our blogs. We reluctantly hit the road at 7:45. We all loved this campground at Lake Meziadin, but there are more adventures ahead. Once again the sun was shining and the air was crisp and clear. Ray wishes that he had time for fishing here as the conditions are perfect for it. The scenery was as advertised, absolutely beautiful. The mountains are all still snow covered, and there is still some on the roadside in the shaded areas. This road is traveled by large long logging trucks that are really moving, and not afraid to pass you on this two lane road, yikes! We passed Bell 2, a spot that we had spent a night on our last trip. At that time it had RV hook ups, and ... read more

Though I have not visited all of the Major League ballparks, I have been to some of the best and most famous. Here is a little (Wealth of Geeks) about each venue's food. Starting with the most famous place: Wrigley Field is an iconic location that people rarely visit for food. However, you won’t be disappointed by the humble concession options. The stadium serves up a magnificent Chicago dog that locals and tourists alike enjoy. Chicago dogs are classic hot dogs on a poppy seed bun topped with yellow mustard, sweet pickle relish, white onion, tomato slices, a dill pickle, sport peppers, and celery salt. They’re simultaneously fresh and hearty. Almost as famous in Boston: You can score a Fenway Frank inside and outside the Red Sox stadium. These dogs are different than your average because ... read more

After a restful sleep we woke up to another glorious day. It was quite cold during the night and our propane heater worked all night. We had three blankets on the bed just in case. Our first stop of the day was Lake Louise, an area where you just can't stop taking photos. The lake is still frozen except for some open areas on the edges which expose the crystal clear water below. After our photo ops we climbed back in our RV's and headed to the Iceland Parkway. It is impossible to describe the beauty on this roadway. There are scenic vistas at every turn of this 144 mile highway. This is our third time traveling through it, and I still am blown away with the scenery. At the Columbia Icefields, we stopped and had ... read more

Off to an early start today as it’s about 4 1/2 hours to Sequoia National Park. Can you image driving that far to go for a walk in the woods and look at trees? Sequoia is home to the largest trees in the world by volume. The General Sherman is 102.6 feet in circumference and and stands at 52,508 cubic feet tall. The General Grant is the second largest tree. It’s tomorrow now because I didn’t get a chance to finish this blog last night. Canada needs to take some lessons on how to make our 400 series highways a little more attractive and interesting. The medians and side ditches here are planted with multi coloured oleanders. Private homes have flowing bougainvillea vines trailing over walls. There are miles and miles of orchards which I assumed ... read more

Ahh…a new day, refreshed. Finally a chance to spend some time getting to know Philip and Coleen, and an opportunity to get a tour of their magnificent house. Jane & I slept up on the mezzanine level overlooking the open concept raftered sitting room. Philip built this house gradually over many years using lovely wood and most of the floors were tiled by Coleen. Philip does taxidermy and there are many stuffed animals and birds decorating the walls. I didn’t take pictures of all the taxidermied animals because I know that offends some people but I couldn’t resist the pic of the bear in our bedroom. We are treated like royalty and have a wonderful breakfast of coffee, BBQ steak pieces, eggs and toasted English muffins. Now I am stuffed. Before we leave Philip takes us ... read more

We were up before 8am, and went up to the Cafeteria. After breakfast, pretty much the usual, we got off the ship to explore Icy Strait Point. We had paid for the gondola ride to the top of the mountain. You can ride the shorter, less steep gondola for free to the other side of the inlet, and walk or take a bus to the town of Icy Strait Point. After we got off the gondola on the other side of the inlet, we boarded to very high up gondola ride to the top. The views were amazing. They had a coupe small places to eat, but we'd already had breakfast and lunch was quite a ways away. We took some great photos and reboarded the gondola to go back down. At the bottom, we decided ... read more

I was watching some tournament tennis on TV the other day. The announcers were talking about some of the current greats, like Rafa Nadal, Djokovic, Roger, and Serena Williams. Other sports too. One of them mentioned that all great players must reach the end of the road at some point. The other one said, "Father time is undefeated!" It reminds of many great athletes who should retire now, like Nadal, Tiger, Klay Thompson, Lebron, others, of course. But it also reminds me of many who stayed beyond their time, like Mickey, Roger, Brady, Carmelo, And I guess it applies to non sports people as well, like Warren, Sleepy Joe, Rudi, RBG, Which brings me to myself. I first retired 15 years ago. But somehow, I am unable to stay retired. But after some surgery and two ... read more
