Taj Mahal & us!
No this isn't a postcard, we are there! India, a baptism of fire!
DAY 1
Our first flight was 6am from Manchester to London. After looking on our itenerary given to us by our travel agents we decided to arrive 3 hours before our flight (to be on the safe side!). What a great idea! The gates opened 2 hours after we got there, great work trailfinders!
After 2 hours of absolute boredom we queued with the rest of the passengers as normal, the queue was massive and by the time we got to the front there was only 15 minutes until we were due to fly. As you can expect panic started to set in when the "Ping Pong" girl announced "Could Mr Jordan & Mr Marlow please go straight to gate 103 please, this is a final warning!" - How we nearly managed to miss our first flight when we got there before anyone else we do not know, your guess is as good as ours!
Anyway, we are on our way at last and all we can hope is that all our planning comes good and we have a great time in India....
Problem number 1... As
Agra Fort
King Of The Castle soon as we get onto the plane Danny needs to rush to the toilet to be sick, this lasted the entire 15 hours between Manchester and Delhi (Have you ever heard of Delhi belly, before you get to Delhi!!). It turns out he is having bad side effects from the malaria tablets and it may take some sorting. Wicked!
We arrive in Delhi at 23.00pm and are met with about 300 Indians holding pieces of paper up to signal to the passengers that their taxi is here! So 20 minutes of searching begins!.....clearly James has played Where's Wolly before as he spots our man hiding at the back!
On our arrival to the hotel we have to step over several stray dogs and an equal amount of tramps + a cow! Starting to feel a tiny bit nervous! (whose idea was it to come here anyway!?).
Bunty our "travel and tourism expert" tried to rip us off big time! 1am and all we want to do is sleep.
DAY 2
In the morning we meet bunty again and decided we knew what we wanted from our trip and thats ALL we would get,
A bit of monkey business
Yes sir, i will give you my hard earned money for showing me your monkey! so bartering begins....In the end i think we did well.
Today we decided to explore the streets of Delhi and basically just rest, the anxious feelings we both had the night before began to subside, and although we were hassled from the first step outside our hotel we were much more happy as it became apparent that our hotel was right next to a busy market and it was fun to walk about.
DAY 3
We woke up at 6.30am to travel to Agra and met our driver for the next 2 days P.K., What a journey it was! The roads are mad, if you think driving in Europe is dodgy then you've never been here! On the way we saw so much and the 4 hour (200km) journey flew by as we both couldnt believe our eyes.....We saw elephants, monkeys, snakes, bears, pigs, cows, camels, and dogs. We saw 3 crashes also (one we were in!), some guy decided to ride his motorbike right into the back of our car, when we both looked back he was ko'd and looking dazed on the floor, did we stop and help?? Did we heck! P.K. just
Nice horse!
Do we look nervous? We should have done! glanced into his rearview and said "thats what happens when you dont look!" Pretty Good!!!!!
When we arrived we visited the Agra Fort which was really cool and had loads of history, our complimentary guide Aznah new his stuff and the trip was very interesting.
DAY 4
Another early start to catch the Taj Mahal at sunrise and its taking its toll on the both of us! (we are pretty lazy after all! especially Marlow!).
When we got there we took a horse and cart ride to the entrance, never again! We both clung on like little girls, should we risk the ride back or the walk through packs of rabinous dogs? lets toss a coin!
The TaJ Mahal was something special and we both walked round looking amazed, it was such a good experience and was worth coming to India just for that, the sunrise was a great time to come as the crowds were small.
Time for a quick nap and then another go on the dodgems back to Delhi (No crashes this time!)
Tomorrow we head for Nepal.....
