School Culture Festival
You can do wonders with milk cartons! We had our first earth quake a few weeks ago, just a little tremor. My university sports festival was a few weeks ago and unfortunately by the time we got there it was too late to participate so we just cheered along. We also had the school culture festival which was actually fun. There were bands playing, all types of dancing from breakdancing to robot to s-club-seven style. There was also traditional things like tea ceremony. The picture of the steps is to celebrate the school festival. The students collected LOTS of milk cartons and drew this design on the back and taped it onto the steps. It survived a few days of typhoon-like rain so they did a great job!
I teach in Tama city (outskirts of Tokyo). Tama is Hello Kitty's Town and features an indoor theme park which Kitty shares with her husband Daniel! Other things you probably didn't know about Kitty are that she weighs that of three shiny apples, her height is that of 5 shiny apples, and has a twin called Mimmy. She is even older than me (32!) and I even know her blood type - it is A negative! Hello Kitty is
Sports Festival
Too late to particpate but just in time for the tshirt! all over Tama centre - street signs, everything. Tama, like lots of areas in Tokyo is a "no smoking" city. Which means you can only smoke in the street in designated areas, usually outside the train station. I don't think you actually get fined in Tama like some other areas...however you can still walk down the street drinking a beer and no one will bat an eyelid!
Some of the train lines in Tokyo have women-only carraiges during rush hour. My train to work has one but I havent been in it yet. The train is so crowded in rush hour; it stops at my station and it looks like it can't fit anymore people in - then about six people step on backwards and push! The other day it was so crowded I only had one foot on the floor - couldn't find room on the floor for my other foot!
We had an all-day Halloween party at school, which isn't as easy as it sounds. Played musical chairs and Pictionary ALOT! All you JETs know what I am talking about.....!
Finally, party animal/socialite Enrique organised a party in Roppongi with 110 people. I don't know
how he knows that many people but anyway, here are some of the pics.

Hello Kitty! Sorry but I had to be the 1st to say it :) Just back from a Buddhist retreat for teachers - totally chilled out. Even with all those teachers! So nosy around there and tell me all the Zen stuff you see and bring any posters back to refresh the classroom walls. Email me about your little darlings - I'm sure they are, Japanese students are always so sweet. Oiche maith! x Alan Hello! This is Kacper, Alan's present flatmate. He thinks that he keeps tormenting me with comparing me to you, but I suppose he exaggerates. However, I've heard that it was really great to share a flat with you. Perhaps he just wants me to do my best? A flatmate control by paranoia? Don't know. Anyway I hope we will have an opportunity to meet soon. Best wishes - Kacper.
