11/06/11 Hot
& Sunny 23 oC

Another peaceful day, only disturbed by the smell of bacon
cooking, Les is having another fry-up; sausage, egg, bacon, toast, Heinz baked
beans, and a mug of tea, Ooh I miss my bacon and when someone's cooking it,
it's like the smell of fish and chips, it's just so damned irresistible.

A great morning so it was very busy on the beach with all
the locals as well as the increasing amounts of holiday makers. The site's
filling up now so we know it's getting to that time when we need to take off,
we're planned to be here until the 1st July when we start our slow
journey back up through France.

We enjoyed a pleasant couple of hours having aperitifs
whilst deciding on our next big caravan holiday which we decided will be
something different, so we're starting to plan a 4-5 month trip of Denmark,
Sweden, Finland, and Norway going right up to Nordcap above the arctic circle.
Unfortunately though the timing means there's very little likelihood of seeing
the Northern Lights, but it should be a fantastic adventure and quite different
to any other trip we've done.

Had a great BBQ with a beautiful steak which just melted in
your mouth and an acceptable bottle of Spanish Rioja what a great way to end
the day.

13/06/11 Thunderstorms
& Heavy Rain 19 oC

Another sleepless night with thunderstorms and torrential
downpours. Whenever you look at the TV there's still just a mass of
thunderstorms located over the whole of central Spain and despite the fact
they're supposed to be moving eastward towards us there's very little sign of
it happening, we get the odd thunderstorm and we can often hear the storms in
the distance but there's very little sign of it shifting.

In some ways it makes a pleasant change to be at the site
all day as it gives us a chance to catch up with such things as cleaning the
van, clearing out the awning, pulling up the grass coming through the ground
sheet, cleaning and oiling the bike, and the 101 other different things which
you fail to do whilst enjoying yourself.

Once again another sleepless night due to the thunderstorms.

It was a real surprise to wake up and find brilliant
sunshine, despite wanting to get out on the bike I was so knackered it was put
on the back burner and I turned over for another hour's kip, oh bliss, why is
it you enjoy the sleep so more when you know you shouldn't be sleeping?

Too hot to do much so it was down to the beach for the
cooling breeze

The site seem to have reached a funny point whereby most of
the people here have been on site a while with few newcomers other than those
on overnight stays, as a consequence there's been little in the way of onsite
entertainment, other than the dance of the sun canopies whereby whenever it's
windy or heavy rain all the campers are out winding in their canopies and
stowing stuff away only to repeat the process in reverse when the weather
changes.

The only constant source of amusement is lazy Les, with his English
dinners regardless of the weather, none of this foreign muck like pasta or rice
for our Les, 27 oC and he's cooking his favourite pork chops, spuds,
cabbage, and carrots with gravy. We know it's his favourite because he has it
2-3 times a week come rain, hail, or heatwave. I couldn't help but smile as fag
ash Lil was giving Les a right going over for burning the chops again, it
struck me that he may like them that way as he's been doing them pretty much
nonstop since he arrived 6 weeks ago.

Oh well it's a BBQ
for us tonight small Spanish sausages with mixed dips, followed by
assorted kebabs, and a fresh fruit salad with a Greek yoghurt and Crème Fresh
dressing, oh and accompanied by a nice chilled bottle of wine, I could get so
so used to this; on reflection I AM USED TO THIS !!

Gear shift went on the bike this morning so I ended up
having to cycle the rest of the way back in low gear with legs flying like the pistons
in a Ferrari, but unlike the Ferrari hardly getting anywhere. I must have
looked like some demented nutter when I called in for my Croissants; struggling
for breath, sweat pouring from every pore, and mouth so dry I could hardly
talk; ( what a good job I didn't ring the order through as I'd probably have
been arrested ;-})

For the last couple of months we've been watching the
lizards and Salamanders who live in the block work wall behind us and then a couple
of weeks ago a snake appeared. I've no idea what sort it is, it's brown with a
small triangular pattern on its back, (no it's not an Adder) about 12-15” long,
the width of a little finger and as fast as lightening. We've had some fascinating
afternoons watching duels between the lizards and the snake when the lizards
want to get past where the snake's coiled basking in the sun, but forever
watching. Anyway this afternoon I went
to get the barbie out from the back of the awning and there he was the snake
was behind the barbie, I don't know who got the bigger fright him or me, I certainly
know who reacted the quickest and it wasn't me! I've never seen a snake move so
fast, so now Linda's on edge, as she says, I like them but NOT that near.

The snake was too fast to photo, and despite gingerly moving things about whilst packing there's been no sign of him since - unless ????
