Surprisingly good bagels and coffee for our free breakfast started the day in Page. Quick drive out to Horseshoe Bend to join the masses taking photos. Made sure to take a few shots that would stress pop out and it is a stunning outlook but very crowded.

Off to Monument Valley. Along the way we stopped a couple times to enjoy the view and Wayne bought me some funky earrings from a Navajo woman who he shared some stories with.

Navajo monument national park had a nice little gallery and museum and the short walk to view the adobe houses in the side of the canyon cliffs was well worth it.

Lunch at Kayenta was a Sonic experience. Instead of driving through you drive up to a personal booth choose what you want place your order through a mic and it is brought out to the car.

Driving in to Monument Valley and crossing in to Utah meant we were almost at our home for the night. Goulding’s Lodge has perfect cabins at the base of some of those giant red rocks. The museum in the old trading post has loads of movie memorabilia as well as items of historical significance and is set in the shop/residence from 1920s. John Wayne’s cabin along with nightly screenings of John Wayne movies filmed in the area, a real bonus as far as Wayne was concerned.

While waiting for the movie we toured around the base of the monuments with the aid (or perhaps despite the aid) of a map we picked up in Goulding’s Trading Post. The size, shapes and natural beauty of the formations is breathtaking.

A visit to the visitor centre resulted in us booking a horseback riding tour for the morning. Finishing Wayne’s Monument Valley tour as the sun set, we dropped the kids at the cabin then Wayne and I watched “She wore a yellow ribbon” which meant we all missed dinner (closes 9pm) so we grabbed some Gas Station food and went to our cabin.

Oops
Having not looked at this since our last big trip, I hadn't noticed how unfinished I had left everything. I now plan to do it when I get. Better late than never.
