Lets see, been up to quite abit the last few days, except sunday where i was rather lazy and had a lie in did the landry visited the local arts and crafts market for a couple of hours.

Monday dawned and due to the lack of exercise on sunday decided to take a walk in to the city centre from St kildas. Turned out to be a pretty pleasant walk. As went through Albert park. and walked along the formula 1 track that runs around the lake.

My main mission for the day was sort out bank account and medicare card, so once that was taken care of. The afternoon was left free for exploring the melbourne gaol, Melbourne's first prison which was built in the 1800's as a trial prison. the main idea of it was to make the prison's reform their ways by putting them into solutary confinement. which they soon discovered that this didn't have the desired outcome as most of the prisoner became insane after too long. so they used it as a short term punishment then if the prisoners were good they got more and more interaction with fellow prisoners. one of the most

famous prisoners to housed and hanged at the gaol was Ned Kelly. who was finally caught, only after making a mockery of the police and killing several people when he was on the run.

On the way back the hostel that evening also went to the obervation deck in melbourne to watch the sunset over the city. got some pretty cool pictures.

Yesterday took a day tours to philip island to watch the little pinguins parade up the beach at sunset as they go back to their burrows after a days fishing. to the start the trip we were taken to a wildlife park where we got see koalas, wombats, wallabies and kangaroos. then it was on the philip island where we were taken the view one of melbourne's best surfing beaches and have swim if we wanted. but as the water is only 12 degrees C. decided getting my feet wet was more than enough. then it was on to the far side of the island to see the nobbies (rock formations surrounded by the sea) on which a colony of australian fur seals have made their home, unfortuatley the seals and rocks are both black so

Sunset from the observation deck
couldn't tell if there were any. then finally it was on the beach where we were to watch the penguins. unfortunatly for you guys i was allowed to take any pictures of them. as they might get scared. but thry were really cute, they about a foot high, just after the sunsets they start to come out the ocean in groups then all walk up the beach and on to their burrows in the dunes. So all in all a very good day out.

Today have been really lazy and went to the beach for the day, to enjoy the sun. tomorrow flying to tazmania for the week.
