I'm driving in Africa!
On Monday night Casey and Liezl took us to Moyo Restaurant in Stellenbosh. Awesome! You basically choose to sit either in treehouses or tents. The meal is a buffet of various African foods and throughout the dinner we were entertained with dancing and drumming. Great for tourists...which we are! There were also fires in drums throughout the area, to keep you warm from the crisp evening air, and the service was superb. The food was unbelievable; grilled Gemsbok that melted in your mouth, BBQ'd marinated chicken, ostrich skewers, Moroccan chicken and lamb and Springbok shanks. Not to mention the salads, vegetables and deserts. All-in-all a fantastic night. You can see photos of the place here because ours do not do it justice!

When we were in the Tourist Information office after our trip to Robben Island had been cancelled we had found a brochure for sports car hire. We were keen to head down to Cape Point while in Cape Town and thought that an open top sports car would be the best way to travel down the twisty coast roads. It also gave our hosts a bit of a break! So it was a convertible Mini Cooper S that

There were so many baboons that one of the Ostrich Farm workers chased them away with a whip so we could get out of the car.
we found ourselves in, heading out of Cape Town and south down the coast.

After a quick trip up to Signal Hill it was then on through the suburb of Camps Bay and on to Houts Bay, then down the amazing road past Chapmans Peak which has literally been cut into the side of the cliff. Having the top down meant that we had uninterupted views of the ocean to the side and the cliffs above. Fantastic.

After passing through Scarborough Karen took over at the wheel and the top came up as the chance of baboons jumping in wasn't part of our plans. Don't laugh! It can happen! We stopped in at an ostrich farm, which also had said baboons swarming around the gate before heading into the Cape Peninsula National Park. This desolate area is very windswept and not very arable so has avoided development and is now host to lighthouses and tourist coaches. We walked up to the lighthouse at the point for a view of the meeting of the Indian and Atlantic oceans and we even spotted a baby Southern Right whale frolicking close to the beach down below.

The wind was picking up and the temperature was dropping so we headed back north up the False Bay side of the peninsula, stopping at Boulders to see the African penguin colony. Unfortunately, we couldn't get down onto the beach with them like the last time Karen was there.

We headed into Simons Town for a quick bite of lunch - probably the only truly disappointing part of the day. While my lunch was fine, Karen's was...different. Her savoury pancake with grilled vegetables was actually pita bread filled with stirfried broccoli, cauliflower and cabbage. Hungry, we continued on.

Driving back towards Cape Town we journeyed through the wine region of Constantia and then past Kirstenbosch Gardens, finally stopping at the Rhodes Memorial. This huge colonaded memorial to Cecil B Rhodes has an amazing view of the city (like many other points around Cape Town).

We finally made it back to Casey and Liezl's place, where we got ready to go to Casey's mum's place for dinner then on to cell group. A totally fantastic day!!
