After a 14 hour flight, a two hour stopover and another 2 hour flight (making it 24 hours in total since the time we awoke) we finally arrived in Cape Town. And the first thing we did? Slept. Our friends, Casey and Liezl met us at the airport and took us to their two bedroom flat. We have our own room, which Karen has made our own by spreading the entire contents of her bag throughout. Before we we tell you about what we have done in Cape Town, we have to mention that we flew over Antarctica! We saw sheet ice as far as the eye could see - it was stunning!

Cape Town is proving to be the perfect place to ease into our travels. It has many reminders of home as well as Europe - Weet Bix combined with Volkswagens and Dutch style architecture.

Yesterday we visited Canal Walk, the biggest and most Vegas-style shopping centre we have ever been to. Look out Castle Towers. We picked up a few necessities (toothbrush Karen?) and relaxed with Liezl over a huge lunch, before a home cooked meal courtesy of Casey's Mum and then heading to their cell group, in which we contributed absolutely nothing due to the combination of jet lag and VERY comfy couches.

Today has been a bit more adventurous with a trip up Table Mountain. The weather was great, with bright sunshine and no wind. After a walk around the top looking at the amazing views of the coast and Cape Town, we plucked up the courage to abseil down the 112m sheer face from the summit. It is the world's highest commercial abseil, starting at approximately 1010m. Karen was brave, showinmg no sign of fear, until she reached the overhang, half way down. James, however, was a little nervous and only did it to save face with his brave wife!

Following our successful descent of the mountain, we treated ourselves to an amazing lunch at Belthazars at the Victoria and Alfred Waterfront. Three courses (including kudu), three hours and several glasses of wine later, we decided we should actually do something touristy again so we found an internet cafe and lo and behold a blog entry!

More to come...

Abseiling leads to swinging!
Hi Guys, Brilliant work on the abseil. I'd be extremely freaked out at that height! A good lead up to the giant swing in Zambia no doubt.......!
