Friday
Such an awesome day! We sat early morning having cold coffee and watching the elephants start there day. Usually they move very slowly (except the baby) not in a. Rush, enjoying their retirement .. This morniNg was different! We heard a angered trumpeting across the field and saw a big mad lady running fast toward a bunch of water buffalo that had obviously offended. The eles chased the buffalo, the mahouts chased the eles, the dogs followed along thrilled with the excitement! All settled down in a matter of minutes but it was quite thrilling to watch! We signed up to go teach the children at the local school English in the morning. I had taken pictures of the kids two years ago when I was here and wavered on wether to bring copies of them of if o would even have an opportunity to look for them. I picked up the images and some sticker, Dave bought some note books, pencils and magnifying glasses. When we got to the school the kids had stations of skills that they had learned (foot massage, dance, bracelet making, musical instruments, selling produce from the schools garden.) we were invited to stay and hang out with the children. Dave and I sat with a few lovely girls who made us bracelets and were very interested in learning colors from us. They were so very sweet. The children live at school all week and go home to there hill tribe on the weekend. They mostly are kids of migrant workers and have no id # so it makes life very difficult. Luckily they have this wonderful school that everything is covered from the government so they can learn skills and have some sort of future. They all seem so happy and not one electronic device in sight! They were playing jump rope games and the boys played Pokemon or something like it. I asked our little girl friends who was in the pictures I brought, and all the kids were there! One girl welled up at the gift, (which of course had me all teary) I was so happy to be able to share the photos with these kids that I had thought about so many times over the years. We stayed and played and laughed with the kids, it was really so much fun.
After our return and a quick lunch, as luck would have it, it was no work cause it is about 115 degrees out, so off to the doggies to make our final decision on a dog... As hard as it was we managed to fall head over heels for a little pup named Blitzen (his name will be changed before his feet hit the USA to something more Thai.) we walked and played and snuggled our new pal, telling him we would be together again and to hang in there! He is sweet and snuggley and seems to know we are a good thing. We are in love! It will take at least a month to get him home, but we will be ready for him for sure! We sat on the upper deck, drinking a Chang beer and whacking the elephants wonder by, thinking of Thai names (Ping is in the running) and wandered over for yet another hour foot massage...
