Sunday 14 February
Change of plans this morning. A dodgy meal somewhere renders Leo incapable of travelling first thing, we find out there is a later 1400 train which allows Leo to see out the problem. Paula having nothing better to do while Leo suffers, sits on the balcony with a mug of tea, times the regularity of the Orange flag express boats. Concluding that our last check out is 1200 hrs allowing us 17 minutes to walk the short journey to the Marine Jetty (N4 on the map of the river). As a bonus, because it's a later boat we have space for us and our bulky luggage. Our previous evening's reccee pays off, as we position ourselves in the right spot and side for the precarious disembarkation at Jetty N11, leaving us plenty of time to find a Taxi or Tuk Tuk to the railway station. Eventually we manage to flag a taxi, a bright shiny fuscia Pink one. Mr Nong persuades us that instead of a bht200 ride to Thonburi railway station, what we really need is a bht 1500 ride through to our hotel in Kanchanaburi,( a mere £26 more than taxi/train intention ) He also
advised that the trip time by car was an hour less without the journey from railway station to hotel. Leo happily agrees, and 95 minutes later we are at our Hotel, Sabai@kan on the lane, just 500 metres away from the Bridge Over The River Kwai. Our intended train would only just be leaving Bangkok! The temperatures and humidity here take us by surprise, clear blue skies, unlike central Bangkok, with high humidity and temps over 30 degrees. We are sure to take advantage of the small pool and nice gardens. We unpack and decide to chill out and recuperate after the hectic Bangkok scene. Given Leo is recovering from a Dodgy meal it is bland food and water before an early night. We chuckled that we have never had such a romantic Valentine's evening, dining carefully on cheese and ham sandwiches xx

gourmet valentines
I hope that your romantic meal at least had some candles, or maybe special nutty bread or perhaps the water was Evian! Hopefully now Leo is feeling better.
