Looking Back... (2/5) El Hipodromo

Horses represent a key element of the Argentinean culture: from polo, horse racing to pampas work, horses are omnipresent in Argentina. In the urban areas, they will be mounted by rich polo players sprinting on immense fields and ridden by jockey on the hippodrome track. But in the region outside the Federal District of Buenos Aires, they will be essential work tools in the surrounding city slums and in the pampas for the gauchos. Besides, as soon as we arrived in small Argentinean villages in different provinces, horses will represent an important mean of transportation…you will often see them “parked” outside homes and restaurants!

These pictures were taken at “El Hipodromo de Palermo” where horses are running every Monday from 15h to 22h. It is always impressive to watch horses racing; I also rapidly noticed that the world of horse racing (and gambling!) is dominated by Argentinean males…
