new apartment
stainglass windows open up to streetside balcony I moved into a new apartment yesterday and love it. It's only about 8 blocks from where I was living before, but much bigger, a little quieter and closer to the really cool part of Palermo with great places to go out. It has a great patio with a grill which I will put to use this weekend.
Last weekend a friend of mine had a BBQ (asado) and he began teaching me the ways of the Argentinean BBQ. A BBQ, called an "Asado" here, is a science in Argentina. All the cooking involves real wood or natural coal, none of this match-lit stuff we use which affects the flavor of the meat. The meat here is claimed to be some of the best in the world too, so much so that you don't even need to add anything to it besides salt. They say the flavor comes from the good grass the cows eat…not sure about that. The best cut of meat is "Lomo", which is tenderer than a filet mignon. Vacío is one of my favorites and is kind of like a flank, as well as the famous "asado" sirloin type cut. There are a few other types,
and then of course there is Chorizo which is a type of sausage which is really juicy and tasty. They usually have this other blood sausage stuff with intestines which isn't too bad either. It's almost black in color and really rich in flavor. Ok, I'm getting hungry just writing this.
I set up my Spanish classes this week and will begin on Friday learning business-focused Spanish. I'm still trying to find a job teaching English and hope to sort something out next week. I start taking tango classes tonight which should be interesting. It looks extremely complicated to watch, so let’s hope they break it down a bit more for us.
I've attached some pictures of my new apartment, the asado last week, one from a concert in a downtown bar I went to a few days ago, and the pre-party I had at my old apartment before the concert. The singer had a really deep voice and was an amazing guitar player. It's so funny to see all the audience chanting all the time. It seems like the chants they use for soccer games also transfer to concerts and any other event where there is an
opportunity to do so. They all chant and wave one hand in the air (in a similar motion as the old Atlanta Braves “Tomahawk Chop”).
I hope everyone is well...y hasta la proxima!

Your place looks great! And thanks for making me hungry as hell. Take note of the recipes or cooking techniques. - Josh
