Krakatau is a cinder cone that has formed inside a a much larger caldera rimmed by three islands. The volcano forming the original caldera erupted in 1883 and collapsed, forming the islands around Krakatau today. These processes stem from the same underlying tectonic movement and are thought to have cyclically occured several times.

Blake studies physics and focuses in theoretical and computational work. He went to Columbia and I live about a block away from where he used to live.

We hiked about halfway up the volcano to a lookout. In the background is Rakata island.

Allie is studying nursing after teaching algebra for three years. She is also the love of my life. She doesn't think she looks good in this picture, I think she looks beautiful here.

Our guide goes by the nickname Milky. He describes how he is very close to Krakatau. "It is my rice," he says, because it provides him work to feed his family.
