Edit Blog Post
Hello Reader.
Wow, it certainly has been a while, has it not?
It has been almost six months since my last posting. I could tell you that nothing of any real interest has happened since then, but that would make me a reasonless liar... and I'm not one for lying. I shall pick up where I left off, but there are a few things you should know. Firstly, I have done everything you can possibly imagine in the past five and a half months, barring a trip to the moon and eating a live animal. I have been places and met people that one might only read about in fantastical travel blogs (?!?). Secondly, I intend to report, as I have done in the past, on these amazing events and individuals in as much detail and chronological correctness as possible. I have kept a written journal for about half of the time, so hopefully it will come in handy. I have taken a lot of pictures, too, so those will help me remember as well. Thirdly, and most importantly, from here on out it will be a struggle between me and my memory. I usually win, but six months IS a long time. That is to say, if I forget to mention something, or mention something in the wrong order... well, you won't know the difference anyway, I guess... so no use in apologizing beforehand.
I am writing this blog for many reasons, primarily it will be so that I have a record of my trip in Europe, so that I can look back with my kids some day and show them everywhere I went before their existence, while I'm sure it will fill me with joy, has stripped away any possibility of such travel until they are independent of me (i.e. put me into a home where I watch reruns of Family Guy and Matlock - a mandatory favorite of old people). The second reason is so that my family and friends can know where I have been and what I have done... you know, to make them jealous. Lastly, I will be writing this journal to occupy my time as I have plenty of it right now... besides, writing is therapeutic for me; a catharsis that allows me to further understand how I feel about someone, something, or somewhere. So, to the faithful few that have accompanied me thus far on this wacky journey of mine and are waiting so (im)patiently for the second act to begin (I won't name any names - Sue Whitmore - but you know who you are), I give you a taste of what the future entries (the past six months of my life) will hold (held):
Departing Valencia, getting lost in a Moroccan village, traveling with Mike through Portugal and France, a huge birthday bash for Ang in Bordeaux, diving off enormous sand dunes in Southern France, an incredible week in the City of Light, beer heaven and a reunion with twins in Belgium (yes there will be pictures), eating the first slice of someone else's birthday cake in England, the best two weeks of my life, missing flights, a concentration camp in Poland, getting ripped off by a train conductor in Hungary, architectural beauty in Austria, in one magnificent word: Berlin, a new traveling buddy for Italy, sleeping on a boat under the stars near the Isle of Capris, cliff jumping, several (nearly impossible) chance encounters in Italy and Greece, ATVs on a Greek island, a Tuscan villa with a surrogate family, a tearful reunion of old friends in Barcelona, running out of money, birthday surprises all around, returning home to Valencia, heart trouble, a job (and more importantly, an income), and the best friends in the world.
Hopefully you haven't forgotten who I am... (Eli, by the way). I can't make any promises, but I'll do my best to keep the blogs coming. Til next time...
