Where to begin. Up there with the most amazing city in the world. And no, you don't have time to sleep!
After our long journey, we arrived at our accommodation in Brooklyn, which was the Lomg Islnd University student accommodation and was basically like hall, but it was only £18 per night. After checking in, we went to a wine bar call Stonehome Wine Bar and Grill. This was the first time we had real, nice wine in the whole trip and was really relaxing after the long day. The following day I had booked to go up the Statue of Liberty and on to the Pedestal. This was amazing, I went on a beautiful day and walked there from Brooklyn, over the bridge. This allowed me to walk through the financial district which I ended up exploring later. The statue was incredible and one of those places you have to see to believe. Liberty Island also gives good views of Brooklyn suspension bridge and Manhatten. The museum about the statue was really interesting and gave me a much better insight into the. Statue herself. On the way back, you go via Ellis Island, which has a immigration museum and
a lot of interesting history about immigration from the 1500s to now. This took most of the day but still gave me time to have a wonder around downtown Manhattan. I walked through Wall Street and Trinity Church, took pictures at Tiffany’s and then went over to the Twin Tower Memorial site, which is 2 large fountains where the towers once stood and was really moving. I then walked up Greenwich Street and through Soho and Chinatown to walk over Manhattan bridge and home. We then went to a place called Henry Public which was a really old school bar with lots of character for some martinis.
The next day we went up to Times Square and had a wonder around there before going to the Stardust Diner for some food. This was a cool diner, on the edge of the Broadway, where the waiters and waitresses sing whilst serving you. After this I went to Grand Central and then up to Central Park. We then went to Harlem and ate some soul food for dinner, before going to some cute bars.
The next day, I had lots of things that I wanted to fit in. I went for a run around Central Park, which was really awesome and then walked down museum mile to have a look at the Guggenheim and the Art museum. I then grabbed some lunch before doing some shopping in Times Square and then walking to Briant Square, Macy's (in Herald Square) and then to Washington Square. It was amazing to think how different all these areas in New York are. I then walked back home before we headed for the MoMA, this is free on Friday nights so worked out well. There are some amazing pieces of art here (particularly on the 5th floor). We then had dinner in Manhattan and then went to a jazz bar in Greenwich. This was a massive bar which had lots of pool tables and ice hockey and really good live music.
So comes our final day in the Big Apple. And what better way to end other than $20 bottomless brunch at a place called Bella Osteria in Brooklyn. This was delicious and I had eggs royale and aperol spritz. We then went to a flea market in the afternoon and had to head off for our flight.
I was absolutely gutted for my holiday to end and I have had the most fantastic time, I wasn't too worried that didn't do all the touristy bits in NY as it is expensive and I know for a fact That I am going to go back there.
These 10 weeks have been incredible and I really needed them to chill me out and give me a break from life. Thanks to everyone who has helped me and made my holiday so totally and utterly fantastic. Until next time.
