Arizona Continued

After spending an enjoyable 10 days in Florida golfing with some guys mainly from New Brunswick, Dana returned to Tucson where the weather was quite a bit warmer than the Orlando area. Debra begun some golf lessons which will help advance her play. She's making good improvements with her game, however, as most golfers realize, it's a life time of work in progress.

We also ventured out on another long hike in the Saguaro National Park West. The Hugh Norris trail is a 9.8 mile return hike and meanders along numerous ridges to Wasson's peak, which is the highest point in the Tucson mountain range. The trail was well marked and quite rigorous at times. The total elevation is about 2,000 ft from the trail head, so needless to say, we had enough when we completed the 6 hour odyssey! There were also some tense moments as the sole on one of Debra's hiking boot became unglued and she came very close to losing it which would not have been good on this trail. Thankfully she made it okay and the worst that happened was an expensive trip to the hiking store!

Pat and Lesha from Toronto stopped in for a few days on their way to Vegas and Palm Desert to visit other friends. We were able to play a few rounds of golf with them and they really enjoyed the Starr Pass Golf Course. Also had the opportunity to experience the Kartchner Caves which is about 1 hours drive from Tucson. The caves are a fascinating discovery and now part of an Arizona State park. Two college students, who were part time "Caver's", stumbled upon the Limestone structure in 1974 and spent the next several years keeping them a secret while fully exploring the area. Eventually an arrangement was negotiated to protect them as part of a State park. They are "living caves" and therefore have strict safeguards used to preserve this phenomenon of nature. We certainly can recommend this as a fascinating tour.

It's now early spring in the desert and the flowers are beginning their full bloom. As you can be seen from the pictures, the desert changes to a congregation of colours which is quite attractive in the backdrop of all the other desert vegetation.
