cheers!
Dinner at Kubuku! Hello...hopefully you all have figured out how to access the site, and I will try to upload photos at the end, but not promising I can do it on this computer...if not I will send heaps when I get to Australia.
San Fran was a blast as usual, and Friday night KT and 20 of her friends took me to a Journey/Def Leppard concert in a stretched hummer! The hour long drive to the concert was definitely the highlight, but the concert was pretty fun too!! Saturday was really fun too, all the ladies got dressed up to support Colleen and her 20 jewelry pieces on the runway at San Fran Fashion Week, Go Leen!!
The San Fran weekend ended with some good and some bad news. The bad news, I missed my flight (Sunday at 1:30 am, is actually Saturday night) however, this was a blessing in disguise, because I got on the flight I had originally wanted, and I got to meet Lisa (my Australian travel partner in Indonesia) on my layover in Singapore (ps the airport in Singapore is AWEEESOME!) and then I arrived in Denpasar only moments after her!
{Some background...Denpasar is the international airport on the island of Bali in the country of Indonesia. Bali is centre of tourism for Indonesia, and a very famous surf spot...but Indonesia is some 13,000+ islands between Malaysia and the west coast of Australia. Kuta beach is the "tourist" beach in Bali, and that is where I am now, and will return for a few days after our 2 week travels to the eastern islands of Lombok and Flores. It's nice in Kuta, actually less tourists than I thought, but some signs are only english (shows you how many indonsians live here) and the beach is pretty but nothing compared to the beaches I will see down the road, Lisa and I are staying in a nice hotel called the Masa Inn (mid range here and Kuta is more expensive because of all the tourism) but it's more than I expected, great actually for only 200,000 rupiah ($20 US - split between the two of us) I will try to attach photos}
We have spent the first few days in Bali cruising around the streets and organizing our trip east to Lombok and Flores. I haven't even been to the beach other than to watch sunsets because of the beach sellers, our hotel has some really nice pools...last night as we watched the sunset on the beach, an indonesian lady (from the far east islands) got really excited and asked us for a photo, next thing we knew, family member after family member came running to get in the photo too, being in Kuta beach, I did not expect this, but I will never forget their excitement and the friendly smiles on their faces!
I will not blog again till I return to Bali in 2 weeks or so, the eastern islands are far less developed but supposedly amazing, so here is an overview of what I will be doing....
Tomorrow morning (9/1...ps I think we are 13 hours ahead here), we leave for Labuhan Bajo, we will have approximately a week to make it east to Moni to see Mt. Kelimutu where we will climb a volcano to see the sunrise and to see lakes of many colors (very excited about this), we will travel north on way and south on way back to Labuhan Bajo, from there we get on a 2N/2D boat trip over to Lombok and the Gili Islands (now going west back to Bali). I am contemplating getting certified to go diving in the Gilis but think I might save my money for more recreation in NZ! Erica being the great sister she is, got me a mask and snorkel before I left, so think I might take the cheap route and snorkel off the shores instead. Lisa will dive in Labuhan Bajo as well as the Gili Islands.
Ps as for Lisa...(I had never met her before Singapore, and met her through lonely planet's forum online while planning my trip)...so I know some of you are wondering...did it work out?? we are having a great time together, I have no complaints, and she is quite the tour guide. She has been here before, and I am quite lucky to have her!
Lots of love,
Kristen
I successfully loaded a photo, but it took forever, will send more in australia....and sorry it's dark (wish I had photoshop) but meet lisa!
