I arrived in Glasgow on Sunday 30th July. This was my first trip to Scotland. I had umpired a match the day before in Manchester - Manchester Mosquitoes v Nottingham Scorpions. This was the last match of the regular season for both teams. Manchester won the match convincingly and just failed to make the finals.

I got up early on Sunday and caught the train from Manchester to Glasgow. I love train travel, it's very relaxing and you have much more leg room than on the dreaded bus.

Andy Butler has been involved in trying to grow the sport in Scotland for a number of years. He picked me up from the train station and drove me to the ground, Victoria Park. I was very impressed as they have managed to secure a fantastic oval field with permanent goalposts.

I umpired two games in Glasgow and then went back to the local Walkabout for a few beers.

The next morning I did some sightseeing but just didn't really feel a good vibe in Glasgow. I decided to go to Edinburgh in the early afternoon. The bus is a real bargain (£4) and it only takes an hour.
