Cambridge
One of my fav pics from Cambridge Suz came in to my room at 6.30am telling me to get up - we both felt like crap after only 3 hours sleep.
Apparently, Suz’s alarm went off and she thought it was Monday, got up and got dressed for work - haha!
We chucked a few things in a bag and jumped in the car.
We tried to get out of London, it took us 40 minutes to get over the River Thames (which should have taken 10!) We found ourselves driving around random suburbs with building that were falling down, etc. Suz just happened to randomly look back and saw a sign for the M11! We did a quick U-turn and we were finally on our way. Still feeling rather average.
We got to Cambridge nice an early, about 8am, parked the car and had a look around the town and markets. The place is full of old ornate buildings which are far older than anything New Zealand would know about.
The Kings College building is amazing, and that’s just one building!
We went to pizza hut for lunch: all you can eat - and that we did! Then Suz and I met Leo at Market
Square and jumped into Suz’s car and headed to Leo’s Uncle’s place in Cottonham after getting lost a few times trying to get out of Cambridge.
We had a welcomed sit down for a while and caught up on goss. We went for a walk around Cottonham and saw the sights: the village green and a few old houses.
Some of the houses there were so neat. There was one in particular that I thought looked like a smurf house. So cute!
We had a slap up dinner and watched a good DVD: “about a boy” then headed off to bed.
We had a bit of a sleep in and packed up our stuff. We had to leave early to get back to London on time for a BBQ. We stopped at the ‘services’ area on the way back and had KFC for breakfast.
I got to drive Suz’s car back to our flat in London, which was quite an experience. Driving on the motorway was fantastic, but as soon as you get near the city, there are far too many road signs that anyone could possibly take notice of. You need one person to steer the
car and another person to navigate your way around the maze of streets and random lane changing requirements. Surprisingly, there does not appear to be much road rage in this country, if any.
I had to laugh on the way home, there were signs on the motorway that said “Keep Apart 2 Chevrons”… I bit of an ‘in-joke’ from our Gisborne trip, where we were playing ‘eye-spy’ and Brendan had chosen a nice easy word like “Chevron” for us to guess - Leah, this one’s for you! 😊
We quickly grabbed some food from Tesco’s and waited for Suz’s cousin, Matt, to come over. The three of us headed over to North London to their cousin Adrian’s for his 25th birthday BBQ.
Adrian is a chef and cooked us up quite a storm. My personal favourite was the fresh berry salad with warm strawberry sauce and a dollop of sweeten Cream with a squeeze of lime. Yum!
