It was touch and go this morning as to whether we made our
10am bus from Saigon to Da Lat in the Southern Highlands. Paula succumbed to food poisoning
on Thursday night. We were able to pinpoint the exact meal responsible. Our last lunch en route from the Delta was a scruffy little place, but as chosen by the Tour Guide, very little we could do about it. It was either eat there, or wait another 5 hours.
However, we had Da Lat in mind, so a weakened and anxious Paula managed the 500 metre walk to the bus with three rests, leaving poor Leo to carry the main, heavier backpacks. Bus left only half hour late, not too bad and compensated by the large reclining bed/seats. We slept a lot.
The journey included 2x 30 minute rest stops and we were very impressed with the cleanliness and facilities at each. As anticipated, the roads were manic and the driver used his horn every time he overtook anything, so literally honked every 2 seconds or so, but we now consider this normal and necessary.
Seven and a half hours later we arrived in Da Lat
and immediately loved the place. Our hotel exceeded all our expectations, newly opened Tulip Hotel II, almost luxurious to us by comparison, and a bargain £22 per night including breakfast. Decided not to go out for meal but to have an early night and an early start tomorrow.
Tip of the Day: Regarding food outlets (couldn't call it a restaurant under any circumstances), go with your first instincts!
