We have been laying low for a couple of days.

Last Friday (November 8th) we walked out to the Super Lake Store rather than Walmart, which is the other large grocery store near us. We really like Super Lake although many of the locals complain about the prices there. We found that the local products were about the same price as anywhere else. The imported goods were expensive but we are ok with that. They have an amazing selection and variety of products.

It seems that the other stores in the same little strip mall are family run, maybe all by the same family. We shopped at the butcher shop and the wine shop. There is also a little fish market that looks good. Tony’s Restaurant which is definitely the same owner as the butcher shop is where we stopped for lunch. Taco’s and something like a fajita was our first attempt at Mexican food and we really enjoyed them. They were not at all spicy.

The next morning, Rick complained of gout and his foot was quite swollen so we lazed around the complex all weekend.

Today (Tuesday) he said he could walk but I noticed that he was still favouring his bad foot. We had a lot of things we wanted to get done so instead of walking we decided to take the golf cart into town.

It was perfect; we first went to the ATM near Walmart. Then to a little gift shop in Centro Ajijic where I bought some post cards. Now we have to find out where to get stamps and how to mail them. We also went to the office of Charter Club Tours. There we booked a tour to the Teuchitlan Pyramids for next week.

It was great fun riding on the rocky roads. I refuse to call them cobblestone roads which are much smoother than these.

On our way back home, we went to Walmart and purchased some slippers and small throw blankets for watching TV in the evening. Rick thinks that maybe the cold tile floors helped to set off his gout.

Our last stop was at Johnny’s Mama’s, Restaurant and Bar. There we purchased tickets for a Fiesta Buffet celebrating the Mexican Revolution next week. I met Johnny’s Mama who is very nice. She asked if we would like to sit by ourselves or join one of the large group tables at the party. I chose a large table and I’m hoping that one or two others at the table will speak a little English. On my way out of the restaurant I noticed some people eating some very nice looking enchiladas. I mentioned to Mama that I had tried making chicken enchiladas the other night but they sure didn’t look as good as these. She suggested that we come for lunch one day and taste hers and then she would share her recipe with me.

Almost home and now unlike earlier we tried to notice the one way signs painted on the corner buildings. A few times today, we found ourselves driving the wrong way on one way streets. It didn’t seem to matter to anyone because the golf cart provided lots of room for cars going in the correct direction. It is however something we will try to work on.

Wrong Way Rick?
I'll pass on the wrong-way golf cart, but I'm expecting right-way Mama-style enchiladas (lotsa heat, please) when we next see you!

Steve, It's a deal. I found a hot sauce and immediately thought of you. It's called Chapala hot sauce.
