Rob Writes: We had enjoyed our time at Monument Valley and it was now time to leave. It had been a great place to escape from our lives and unwind. I will miss it. I feel fortunate I was able to experience what it had to offer and would recommend it to anyone.
Time to hit the road! Woo-fucking-hoo. As I write this we have just completed the final leg of our 2000 mile drive, so forgive my pessimism, but right now I hate driving. At the time however, I was quite enjoying myself.
We were now going back the way we came, towards Flagstaff and further south to Scottsdale, Phoenix. It was our first long drive, about 5 – 6 hours in total and all in all it was quite uneventful, well, for Tina and Dan anyway. I on the other hand had an excellent experience as I witnessed something quite spectacular. I spotted my first Mazda Miata in the wild and have a picture to prove it. This won’t mean anything to anyone apart from me but you can enjoy the picture anyhow. I have chosen to write about this not for your benefit, but so
I can look back on this in many years to come and hopefully rekindle some of the excitement I felt at the time. I also have nothing else to write about the drive to Scottsdale.
We were staying in a Holiday Inn. I’ve never stayed in a Holiday Inn before so wasn’t sure what to expect. It turned out to be very nice, despite the renovation/construction going on, and even benefited from a pool and breakfast. We did struggle to find the hotel, however. With Phoenix/Scottsdale being the first of the bigger cities I had driven in, I had gotten a little confused with freeway exits and may have made a few wrong turns. Meanwhile, tempers flared in the Ford Escape. When I say tempers, I mean Tina was getting pissed off that I had made my first major mistake in 800 miles of driving in a foreign country. It cost us about 15 minutes in detours. How much of a useless fanny am I. When we did eventually arrive at the hotel we changed into our swimming outfits and went for a play in the pool. I had planned to drown Tina at the first opportunity for the
shit she had given me in the car but I must have forgotten because she’s still here.
We had probably been splashing around for two or so hours when we finally realised we were hungry. We dragged our pruned asses out of the pool and back up to our room to get changed before heading into Scottsdale where we had planned on eating at Amy’s Baking Company restaurant.
Now, for those of you who don’t know anything about Amy’s Baking Company, check this link out:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amy's_Baking_Company_(Kitchen_Nightmares) If you are already aware of Amy’s Baking Company from their appearance on that twat Ramsay’s shite TV show then you will appreciate that this could have been a somewhat interesting experience.
I am both pleased and disappointed in equal measure to report that Amy’s Baking Company is a lovely place and the food was fantastic. Amy and Sammy were not mental, a little eccentric maybe, but certainly not mental like the TV show would have you believe. Dan even risked death by complaining there was a fly in his beer, but Sammy just gave him another, no questions asked. Sammy didn’t tell Dan to fuck off or threaten him
with his gangster ties. We got chatting to Sammy and Amy and they even gave us a round of drinks on the house! This isn’t what happened on the television! I’m starting to think Gordon Ramsay doesn’t swear in every poor sod’s face in reality like he does on the TV program either, and that it’s a big show for the camera, but then I think... What kind of arse would do that? I’m very confused right now. Is Gordon Ramsay an even bigger tit than I had previously thought?
We finished the night by taking Dan to Hooters to see some boobs in tight t-shirts before heading back to the Holiday Inn.
