...sorry it´s taken so long to get this out and published!
WEDNESDAY (8-2)
There was a little mal-function today at the house. These are times when I really miss my daddy. For some reason I couldn´t get my sink to turn off. The knob was apparently broken on the sink. After playing with it for a while I realized that applying pressure slows the current of the water enough that it´s not going to flood in my bathroom. Well, I couldn´t just stand there all morning pushing the handle down on the sink, so I grabbed two items nearby: a shoe and a box of tampons. Quickly I adjusted the items so that the toe of the shoe was touching the knob and the back to the box. The box was touching the mirror and therefore I could let go and get ready for the day. Sr Loyola was gone early, early in the morning for the entire day so I was on my own. Finally when we were all ready to go I just turned off the water flow upstairs. ...We´ll figure it out after school...
Obviously, it´s Wednesday and since our trip the finca was
yesterday I was out of classes for the day. I didn´t mind really. I was enjoying my liberty as I stolled around the halls going from class to class to drop in for a little. The good news is that I got one task of my AP Government summer assignment out of the way. Unfortunatley I need my book for the other three parts.
When my long morning was over at the school we headed back home to eat. The water was still out upstairs so first thing on the "to do" list was fix that lil problem. So we called up the guy who does the plumbing work at Escuela Semillita and turns out he was having some lunch at McDonald´s down the road! So Dorita and I picked him up in the Trooper since her car was in the shop again being inspected. Before the three of us came back to the house we pulled into Riocentro to buy another faucet.
After we got that all fixed up it was late afternoon and Dorita and Sra. Loyola went off to get some sleep. I took a nice, long run in our neighborhood. I even did a
little work out in the park. I regrett to tell you all that despite the effects this country had on my parents (weight-wise) it was not as favoring to me. My problem with food is the fact that I eat it. A lot. And since I´ve been here today was only my second day exercising. Not good.
Though when I got back to the house I took a nice shower before relaxing with Dorita in front of the TV. We watched a movie that was playing, "Are We There Yet?" and was not impressed. So I wasn´t too sad to leave the couch when Dorita informed me that she had work that needed to be completed for tomorrow. I enjoyed playing doctor once again!
THURSDAY (8-3)
I had a lot of fun this morning with my third grade classes. Even though I teach English I got the privlege of having these guys in class the same day they had show-and-tell animal day. It was quite interesting. A lot different from any show-and-tell I ever had in elementary school! These kids had crabs, chics and turtles. I´m sure there´s some regulation against that in our
lovely school system back home.
Our lunch was nice and filling and I felt like today was a perfect day for a catnap. So off I went to sleep. I was woken up when Dorita came home from work. My cue to get ready to go back out again. I dressed and pulled myself together in a few minutes (yes mom and dad I CAN do it!) and we headed off to MegaMaxi.
Unfortunatley my card expired 3 days ago so I was forced to use what little cash I had left. Then again when we went to Mi Comisariato in Riocentro. They really didn´t seem to care that the swipe number is the same on the new card. I wish people in Ecuador would be more trustworthy so it wouldn´t be so hard to trust someone else. Oh well!
We came home for the night and before we all head upstairs for the night we had some grub!
FRIDAY (8-4)
Upon waking up, I came to realize that today would be my last full Friday here in Ecuador. My last time teaching those crazy 4th and 5th graders who treat me
like a celebraty the most out of the entire school! I´ll miss their attention and thier sweet, young inocence. I brought in candy for them as a treat for being such good students in English before I walked out of those classroom doors for the last time.
After lunch, Dorita and I had planned on going out to check out stores in Riocentro and Policentro, but we ended up going to the bank to see if there was anything we could do about my out-of-date credit card. Sadly, there wasn´t anything that could be done to help me. So we did what any depressed person would do:
That´s right, we pigged out at McDonald´s. Did you know that the Dollar Menu is only in the States? I was pretty upset about paying twice as much for a McPollo (McChicken). Oh well; it was good, totally worth it!
We got home and did some more work in the computer room for Dorita´s job. I´m gettin´ good at counting in Spanish!
By the time Sr. and Sra. Loyola had come home with food, we were still full from Mickie Ds, so we took a raincheck. Ok, fine, I
didn´t, but that´s because Sr. Loyola had bought my favorite bread so I had to eat with him. And I got a nice break from the medicenes too.
Until next time,
Shir

hola
Hey chiquita banana, I think I'm the first to read this blog and comment! Love the pics as always, seems like some interesting show and tell there! I hope you're enjoying your last few days, I'm sure they're bittersweet for you. We're looking forward to seeing you when you get home, though! I won't be in Richmond when you get back but I'll meet up with you guys in Harrisonburg when you get home (I'll be in NOVA doing some business stuff). So have tons of fun, good luck packing (make sure you don't leave anything under the bed!), and have a SAFE trip home! love, your sis
