Karijni NP to Tom Price
We are booked to do the Rio Tinto mine tour tomorrow (Saturday) leaving from the Tourist Information Centre in Tom Price, so we leave Karijini reasonably early and drive the 110 odd kilometers to Tom Price, arriving around 10am.
First stop, the shower, what a relief it is to have a nice shower, even though we do have a shower attached to the camper, it is always nice to have a good shower and wash your hair, shave your legs, and just stand under it and let the hot water run down your back.
The caravan park at Tom Price isn’t all that flash, and we are pleased we have only booked in for one night and intend on making our way to Mt Florence Station after our mine tour tomorrow.
Tom Price itself is a funny little town, nowhere near as big as I thought it might be, it is full of miners, as are most of the little towns through the Pilbara.

some of the beautiful wild flowers tour of the Rio Tinto Mine.
We found ourselves all packed up and ready before 9.30am, so we made our way down to the info centre, grabbed a nice coffee, and Pete had to have an egg & bacon roll, even though we had just had breakfast!
The Mine tour was very interesting, I wasn’t really sure how I would go with it as I am not really into big machinery and stuff, but the enormity of it all is what I found really interesting.
Once we had finished the tour, around 12:00 we made our way to Mt Florence Station, stopping off at Hamersley Gorge along the way. Hamersley Gorge would have the most amazing rock formations I have seen to date, and the colors, they were all here. I wasn’t swimming any gorges today, and was very pleased I had made that decision before I got to the water, a few people down there had decided to swim it, and their body language indicated this water was freezing.
Back on the road, and on to Mt Florence Station, once we had made our detour of around 70kms and arrived about an hour later than

that bloody shredded tyre! we planned, we were so pleased to be at this little gem of a place. There were only four campers in here tonight, very quiet and peaceful indeed.
After talking to two of the campers, who are seasonal farm hands, we discovered we were a day late for the muster, bugger, we would have loved to have seen that, but you can’t be everywhere doing everything. However, after asking if we could come to the cattle yards tomorrow to watch some of the action there, they checked it out with the station owners, and we were allowed to make our way to the yards in the morning.
There was a lovely campfire ring and firewood provided, so we made use of that. This was so nice, just Pete & I, no one else, sitting around a campfire cooking tea in the camp oven. We haven’t done this since we left Koraleigh, and both mentioned how much we have missed it.
Peter was a very happy man, campfire, beer, and his beloved Blues had beaten the Tigers!
