Day 9 - Terracotta Army and the Muslim quarter
Up at 6.30, reasonable breakfast at the hostel this morning, then
at 8am we set off to catch the public bus to go to see the Terracotta Army. For the first time, we came together as a group and got to the meeting point on time....yayyyy It was about an hour and a half bus journey with only one change, but with 118 of us plus two guides, that's not a straight forward task.
There is about a 15 minute walk once you actually get past the ticket point. It is very tourist based. My eyes were are all over the place as there is so much to look at! We finally got there. First we watched a film on how it was discovered and then excavated. It was so hot at this time, about 38 - 40 degrees. I got the most appreciated ice lolly ever!
There were 3 different pits to view. Pit one is the pit that contains the main army. It was here where I did my warrior pose! I thought it was appropriate as they are the warriors! Pit two has the cavalry
and infantry, horses and chariots, so they are the military guards. Pit three is the command post with the high ranking officers, but is still under excavation.
It was surreal, actually seeing it for real! On the way back through the tourist bit we stopped off for lunch. I really enjoyed it. I had fried noodles with vegetables, again, it was very spicy, but I think I am getting used to it! We then had a two hour journey back. This was extended due to traffic. We had a couple of hours to chill, so Laura and I went to Wal-Mart for supplies for when we go rural tomorrow.
At 6pm we met up again with Monica and Sascha for a walk into the Muslim quarter. On the way there we stopped off to view the biggest/oldest / grandest bell tower in China. Then we continued to the equally impressive drum tower. then on to the Muslim quarter. I loved it there! It was the traditional type of China that I had expected to see. So much is ultra modern; all designer stuff everywhere, but this place was amazing! I bought quite a few bits that I am
going to regret when I reload my back pack. I may have to off load dome more stuff to be able to carry it! But it is worth it. I got a happy Chinese Buddah which I wanted! Amongst other stuff!
Whilst we were there we tried so many different street foods, then stopped off for a quick meal. I shared fried dumplings with Andrea, i really liked them. Again a bit spicy, but that is becoming the norm! We stayed there a good three hours. Laura and I were very chuffed to get ourselves back to the hostel in one piece... Lol.
Tonight the group have gone clubbing, I opted for a shower and a sprite at the hostel! Hohn how things have changed over the years! Monica has warned us we will be out of Internet range at the farm, so I will catch up soon xxx

to see the Terracotta people must be amazing To see pictures of them cannot possibly be anything like the real thing. I never realized that all the people are different. You are certainly trying all the food, sounds very interesting and hot. Really enjoying your blogs, keep going Lesley.
