Yes, I know, where the devil have I been…??!! Call this a blog!!! Well, it’s hot, too hot to move, definitely too hot to blog. Our major effort each day goes into finding some shade, searching for the perfect tree to moor under..
So, where have we been, what have we done and who have we seen? The last blog left us moored up at Sonning on Friday evening...

th: Another scorcher! Travelled down to Henley this morning to meet up with Claire and Paul who had cycled from their home in Binfield to see us… such dedication! Not only that, after a blistering hot day in the sun on the deck, they cycled off home from Hurley, a mere 32 miles round trip. Serious admiration from the crew, although some concern over their sanity too! Henley was interesting as the Music Festival was underway there, boats everywhere just like regatta week, moored to the booms down river. So our home for the night was just above the lock at Hurley, where we had moored last year. Not such a peaceful night as revellers were returning in the early hours from the festivities at Henley, so we booked
Claire and Paul
Happy Birthday Claire! into the more up-market moorings behind the lock for Sunday evening.
Sunday 14
th: Met up with Fiona and John at Hurley in the already steaming heat and pootled off downstream to have picnic lunch (thanks Fiona) aboard at Marlow. I love Marlow, one of my favourite places on the river. Took a short leisurely walk into the town and bought ice-creams (and a tee-shirt.. well, it was in the sale). Then back to Hurley for F and J to collect car and to our posh mooring, which was bliss… shady and quiet. We collapsed in sweaty heaps, and then enjoyed cold showers!
On Monday (15
th) we travelled down to Marlow again for a spot of food shopping and then on to our most idyllic peaceful shady resting place so far, at Cookham on the bank of the weir stream behind the lock, a secret spot (well not so secret now). It was so perfect that we stayed for the whole day on Tuesday, sitting on the bank reading and dozing, and Tuesday night. Our only neighbours were Liz and Terry on their narrowboat with gorgeous Roxy, and a field of cows. Saw the Swan Uppers arrive at Cookham
Lock on their way upstream, quite a sight in their ceremonial costumes. Walked into Cookham to eat when the sun had given up its hold.
Wed 17
th: Could have stayed in our secret spot forever, but also want to see more, so have moved on today to Windsor, again perfect mooring under a willow, but not so quiet… trains and boats and planes! Just chilling on bank, watching the world go past. Have booked theatre for tonight to see Birdsong… might have to shower and smarten up!
The Rogues Gallery shows a selection of some of Piccolo Mondo visitors...

If you are back in Marlow let me know. My office is right by the river!
