MeMeMe

Here I am before I left the USA.
Well, to be honest, I should have had another posting between this one and the one titled "Ich bin hier!" but apparently something went wrong. Sorry about that. I'll make up for it by having pictures with this one. :-)

I came here with just one suitcase, a backpack and a purse (a large one, mind you). Six months in Europe with just one suitcase! And I'm a girl, to boot! Aren't you impressed? I was asked by a couple of people to take pictures for proof, so here it is!

The city that I'm staying in is Schwäbisch Hall, Germany. It's a very quaint little town, lined with cobble-stone streets, and filled with little shops, cafe's, and bakeries. I haven't had much time to explore it yet, but that's on my list for the weekend. We were given a tour a couple of days ago. It wasn't so much for sight-seeing, as it was for learning where the necessities are: market (grocery store), clothes shop, backeries, banks, etc. I've already been to the market, and Germany has soo many good foods! I'm sure I won't make it through them all, but I'm going to try! :-) My first meal in Schwäbisch was "something"-fleisch mit Spätzle, basically a tender steak with gravy, and Spätzle is a noodle made from a potato-flour base. Delicious!

I've made many friends already and am having a wonderful time! Being here has made me realize that I have much to learn about the German language. It's so different actually using it in everyday life than just in the classroom. Going out into the city and hearing it spoken by the locals is the best. When you're immersed in it, it starts to become second-nature. It's really nice to be around students who are at such different levels, too. The students who are at a higher level really help the lower ones, and the lower are eager to learn. And since the students are from such diverse backgrounds, you learn more than just German from each other. We have students here from China, Japan, Saudi Arabia, Italy, Poland, Great Britain, Australia, and many more, I just can't think of them all. It's great!

Well, this afternoon I am going to play fußball, or soccer for my American friends. :-) I think the last time I played fußball was either elementary or middle school, so I don't really remember the rules. I guess I'll learn!

Tschus!
