No alarm and woke up at 9.30 today. Decided to walk along beachfront looking for breakfast by heading right instead of left this time. Soon came across a couple of restaurants. Went to Ocean Blue and ordered the special for $4.50. For that price I got Bali gold coffee pot, large glass of pineapple juice, scrambled eggs on toast with sausage, tomato, a bowl of fruit mixed with yoghurt and muesli (yummy), and a bread basket which had two slices of different bread, a croissant and a slice of banana bread. Wow what a full load.
We then walked up to the next cross street and headed back towards Legian Street. Lots of shops along here and we picked up some items. I even managed to get myself an authentic pair of Billabong thongs for $10- (well he said they were authentic !).
It was about 500 metres to get to the Legian Street intersection but that takes about 1 hour when you wander in and out of the little shops. We then popped into a little pub to get some drinks. Had a lovely strawberry milkshake. They had a small stage setup for a
band, and Kerry noticed they had all of these bicycle horns hanging around from the ceiling. She asked the waitress what they were doing, and she said that was the only way you can order a drink in between songs so you can imagine how loud it must get at night.
A bit further along towards Seminyak we found a large supermarket which also had a second floor with all sorts of home wares. We bought some things cheap for the room for snacking (Coke, Fanta, lollies). Elise picked up a packet of Cheezels but I said put them back as the $6- for a small pack ! It’s funny how expensive some of the western delicacies are whilst some are really cheap. As six pack of Corona’s was about $25- whilst bottles of wine start at $40-. A 12 slice pack of Coon Cheese slices was $6-. We bought a few souvenirs from here as well including a new Buddha head four our Bali Hut at home. We then got a Taksi back to Jayakarta Hotel for $2-.
Today was not as overcast as previous days and it felt a lot warmer so
we pretty happy to just chill in the air conditioned room for a couple of hours once we got back. We actually watched some good shows. The first was a documentary about the Boston marathon bombings and the capturing of the two suspects. The second show was about this family who own a salvage business in Canada recovering car & trucks who crash on a fairly tricky piece of highway through the Rockies where they get really bad weather and a lot of black ice. It was amazing to see them take 4 days to recover a car that went over the cliff and about 500 metres down an embankment (amazingly the two passengers survived !).
Time for another afternoon swim in the pool before getting ready for dinner. It seems like there are lots of Aussies are staying at this resort.
We decided to do to dinner at one of the beachfront restaurants out the front we saw this morning. decided on a place called Zanzibar which was Mediterranean style. Ordered the usual servings of Garlic Bread and Bruschetta for starters. Luke & I ordered Bintang beers (I had a large of course),
and Kerry had a bottle of Lindeman’s Semillon Chardonnay. It was unusual in that it was 2009 vintage we rarely have white wine that old at home.
For main meals Luke & I also had the same being Chargrilled Chicken, Elise had Calamari & Prawn and Kerry had the Surf “n” Turf but with chicken not steak we would normally see at home. All meals arrived together. Great service here and meals were delicious so we are finally making some better choices in Bali. Total cost was about $80-.
Got back to the room and watch the Bahrain Grand Prix on one of the dodgy TV Channels (reception is pretty poor !).
