How to make Yorkshire Puddings:
Take 2 good, well kept eggs. Add a pint of banter. Mix together. Put on a pre-planned flight to South America and cover in sun when ready.
Well here we go,
After an absolute ridiculous couple of leaving do's and parties and send off's were finally here, but only just.
After 'The Match' and having more than a few bevvies round ours with the loved ones we were woken by me Mam at gone 12.45pm feeling like death and having to be at Donny train station in just under 2 and half hours and neither of us had yet to unpack our things from the barn party, never mind pack for our trip! We would have easily slept through 'til Monday if it wasn't for that wake up call so nice one Mam! (Yes we did have two weeks off work before we set off to pack and get things sorted but we both like a challenge)
We managed to pack all our things and print off endless documents in record time and made it to Donny station with our convoy, although the train we were on got cancelled. We had
to get another train that didn't leave for another hour so at least we got some more time with Billy. When the train did come we both never realised how hard it actually is to say bye to people for quite a while and it got quite emotional on platform 2. We then found our seats on the packed train to find out that some proper legend had spewed all over the two seats directly opposite ours and it stunk to high heaven. After 3 hours of staring at sick we hit London and called our 'mate' Mackie who was going to put us up for the night. Mackie wasn't answering. It'll be right, he'll be at work, we'll get some food and give him another ring in a bit. Still no answer. We were then getting a bit worried that we'd be stuck without a place to crash and would have to cough up for a hotel room when I remembered Dave Butterys loved up promise that we can kip at his whenever we wanted, so we put the call in and in no time were in the pub having a pint with Dave. It was then that Mackie
called to explain that he'd been mega busy at work and had totally forgot we were going down to stay. We had a laugh but he can get ready, I'm going to proper rub it in the next time Barnsley beat Leeds! We got our heads down at Daves and got woken to a coffee and some breakfast ready to see us off. Seriously Dave, nice one mate.
We hit Victoria station to meet George who was going to see us off and had our last meal in England of Macdonalds (cos that's how we roll when G. Cook is in the house!). After eating our dinner and walking past 'snow flake man' (see George Cook) we got on the express to Gatwick with another emotional send off under our belts. We checked in and miraculously our bags were UNDER WEIGHT and we got on the plane bound for Madrid. In Madrid we were checking onto our connecting flight when a load of 'fit looking blokes' (Laura's words) were coming our way. I had to do a second look as the tall bloke walking towards us was Didier Drogba! It was the Galatasary team that were playing Real Madrid
we later found out after chewing Drogba's ear off and shaking his hand about 12 times, really keeping it cool like. We then got a crap sandwich and a couple of cans and fell asleep on our 12 and half hour flight to Buenos Aries, although I did wake up just at the right time to fly over a place called Fray Bentos!!!!
We eventually touched down in Argentina looking, smelling and feeling like tramps and shared a taxi to our hostel with an Argentinian movie star apparently, although he can't be that good if he agreed to share a taxi with us looking and smelling how we did. In the taxi the 'movie star' was translating for us our questions to the taxi driver about Buenos Aries and the weather and safety and stuff when the taxi driver said "...My friend there are only two problems you need to worry about in Buenos Aries - one is the taxi drivers - and the other is the people". As we were driving through parts of the city we could see that parts of it were severely flooded, with the water level being above the walls of houses and with
cars bobbing up and down, the taxi driver said that the night before it had rained for 10hours and said it as though it had been raining for 3 months solid. Just 10 hours?! I think we're going to have to get used to this South American weather. When it rains, it doesn't mess about. Then as we got out of our taxi and said goodbye to our 'movie star' friend it started to rain. And rain. So much for covering Yorkshire Puddings in sun.
We legged it into our hostel and navigated the old school lift (just big enough to fit a scabby dog in) and checked in and got in bed and slept for 14hours straight.
We woke up yesterday and walked round Buenos Aries in the baking hot sun all day, so far it doesn't feel like a South American city, all the buildings are quite European looking. You do have to watch were your walking though as the pavements in places are unstable and they must have some big dogs a because the dog shits are huge!
We went off to find a street called Florida street where we can book tickets to see a Boca Juniors game and literally walked for about 6 hours to this Florida place people kept telling us to go to and when we got there it was actually the wrong Florida we were looking for and in fact the one we wanted was a 15minute walk from our hostel front door! But at least we got to have a proper good look around the place and we both agreed that we might just like it. After eventually landing in the ticket office we found out that there was a match on Sunday, at home, against top of the league Lanus F.C, so we snapped up two tickets to the match and walked the 15minutes back to our hostel.
Up to now that's it. We're spending money like its going out of fashion and the steak is absolutely out of this world. We will look to write again in a few days as we look to book our trip to iguazu falls and update you on the footy match that I cannot wait for!
Adios folks
