Raj
Driver and good bloke Breakfast on the lake with the birds was romantic, we had such a relaxing time. We said goodbye to our crew of 3, Romeo, wherefore, and artthou! Raj was there to collect us in his gleaming white car and smily face asking how we had enjoyed the boat. Our last day with Raj as we drove away from Alleppey. The road was straight and so we made good time. Steve and I chatted most of the time about life when we get back, so the scenery wasn't that stunning. We stopped for coffee and persuaded Raj to join us, he is a lovely fellow. We picked up the rep from Cox and Kings just outside Kovalam and noticed lots of high tech science parks which are the call centres. Charming chappie who gave us some options for Kovalam. We arrived at Travencore Heritage our home for the next 7 nights. We said a tearful goodbye to Raj, he has to drive all the way back to Cochin, he has been such a lovely person to travel with always smiling. We had a lovely welcome with mango juice and shown to our room which has lovely views over the Arabian sea. We
have a patch of green just outside and chairs on a terrace. We quickly unpacked and complained about little things like not enough hangers, no plug in the sink, but then this is India. They soon provided us with all we asked, a quick room service sandwich and off to the beach. It looks closer than it is, a walk, lift down, another walk across grass and the sandy beach. As we approached the sea there was a procession with singing as the Christian service began, at a chapel on the beach. We headed for the sea which was so warm. There are a few waves which Steve loved as did lots of kids but I was a bit scared as I am still struggling to swim with this stupid arm. However I made it in and it was so delightful. Back to our room and shower change and evening meal. We talked to a lovely couple Jeff and Brenda from Harpenden then went on the Internet, its free but only in the lobby.
Next day we really chilled out, went for a swim before breakfast at 8 and the water was almost too warm. After breakfast of beans on
toast, I went back on the computer while Steve sunbathed, I wanted to finish my order for food for when we get back, 3 hours later Steve came to find out where I was just as I was ordering the beer has he got a sixth sense? We then went for a walk around the local area which is the normal ramshackle that is India. Spoke to a few children and bought bananas. Another swim and then lunch of salad yes salad this hotel washes everything in filtered water. An afternoon nap by the pool for Steve and I read my book. We checked in at the hotel library and there are lots to choose from. We went back to our room and showered and watched the sun go down to G & T's. whilst we watched the fishing boats go out, then another delicious meal in the restaurant where we spoke to another couple Joan and Dave from Epsom who seemed to have been everywhere exotic, Bermuda, Antigua, Mauritius, and they spoke with London accents, they are off to the boat trip tomorrow but return the day after. More Internet then back to the room and we watched Meet
the Fockers, that was fun! Sunday we lazed in bed and took our breakfast at around 9.00 in the lovely restaurant overlooking the pool. Eventually made our way down to the beach at midday after doing the travelling essentials like washing and were immediately pounced upon by David an allegedly crippled ex fisherman who was flogging niknaks from a bucket. Pauline selected a charming little piece of marble carving which he claimed his father had done. Oh yeah! Anyway after a little bit of haggling we agreed on 400 rupees, about £3.50 in proper money.. Spent the day up to
3.00pm swimming and watching the breakers before getting too fried and returned to our room for a delicious
Sunday lunch of satsumas, bananas and cashew nuts, washed down by a glass of wine. Not as good as a roast but it is 35 degrees here. Blightey's temperatures will not be a welcome relief.
