So far in our travels we have come across 3 major metropolis powerhouses, Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur and Singapore, and boy oh boy is Singapore our fav. We will always have a special connection with Bangkok but in terms of a cool, modern, clean, vibrant city...Sing takes the award!

We arrived in Changi Airport (more to come on Changi as we feel the need to spend some time and talk about how incredibly fantabulous this Airport is!!) and took the MRT to the Geylang area of Singapore where we had our cheapie (cheapie for Singapore standards) room at the Fragrance - Emerald Hotel. We paid $30 a night and had our nicest room yet..we even had a TV!!! We haven't watched anything on any tv since we got here. Not that we're in dire need of some cheesy sitcoms or films, but it was still nice to just lay there and watch the hilarious Asian drama shows. After little to no sleep in KL we got some street food (which 4 days later poor Dave is still feeling the effects) and had an early night with our new found entertainment options.

Next day we were going to meet up with a long lost friend of mine who I know from Toronto and has since moved back home to Singapore. We made dinner plans and so we had the whole day to explore the city. Singapore, being a cool, modern city is also a pretty pricey one for Asian standards, so we opted on just taking the train to the heart of the city and walking around most of the day. We ended up finding a really nice church called St. Andrews Cathedral and spent some time taking pics around it. There we saw a group of about 6 teenage Chinese girls, vacationing. At one point they came up to me and asked what I thought was meant for me to take a group picture of them all around the cathedral, I was wrong. They wanted to take pictures WITH ME. So again, sort of like the KL Tower experience...they lined up hugging me super tight, one by one and took pics with me. They kept saying how beautiful I was and hugging and hi fiving me. All thewhile Dave was standing in the background laughing histarically and taking pics of them taking pics of me. Such a funny experience. My fan club 😊

So then we carried on walking around the city. One thing that is visible even from the plane as we were landing, is the Marina Bay Sands Hotel. It is bascally comprised of 3 giant buildings spaced apart with an even more giant boat like structure on top of the 3 buildings attaching it all together. The boat structure is in fact a rooftop area with a variety of bars, restaurants, a massive infinity pool overlooking the whole city at 60 floors above ground. It is also facing the ocean and has its own small bay enclosing it.

As we strolled the beautifully manicured streets of Singapore, all we could look at is the Marina Bay Sands Hotel! It's like it was staring at us everywhere we went! So off we went to the the funky double helix bridge that connects us to the hotel. The hotel structure is extremely impressive. We strolled around it for a while..it has a huge mall, an art museum is beside it, and beautiful gardens all around it. Then we went and paid $20 each to go up to an area (not the infinity pool area, that's for guests only) where "visitors" can enjoy the view and have a drink. The view from above was absolutely incredible!! The ledge was all glass so once we got over the initial vertigo feeling it was quite spectacular. We even had an $18 beer for Dave and a $20 dollar martini pour moi. This was by far our spendiest attraction so far. Well worth it though. After the hotel we walked around some more between all the hidden gardens, waterfront cafes and cultural sites and munuments, we were smitten!

In the eve we met up with my friend which was just fantastic. Haven't seen her in several years and was very nice to catch up. She took us to an area by the water where they set up hawker stands selling cheapie street food. After our meal we enjoyed the light show THE hotel puts up every night. Amazing sight. Felt like we were in Vegas. All in all a very fun day exploring an amazing city. We got home, packed and basically fell asleep standing! In the morn it was time to say goodbye to Singapore but a very welcomed hello back to Thailand!

Changi airpot is fantastic! There is a small movie theatre, free computers with internet and free video chat, gardens everywhere, open air sunflower park, a pool! nap rooms, a gym, the world's tallest indoor slide..etc etc etc!! we could have spent all day here!

We took our third flight of the week (some backpackers we are!) with Tiger Airways, which was very nice and even arrived a half hour early in Krabi.

We are now in Krabi which is a coastal city in the South Western part of Thailand. We stayed at one resort a bit far from the main area and didn't like it very much. So today we moved to the main strip of Ao Nang beach. We haven't done much in the last few days as Dave isn't feeling 100%. But tomorrow we booked an island tour to go see Koh Phi Phi island and Maya Bay (The beach from the movie The Beach) among some others to snorkel. Should be fantastic. Then in 2 days we are off to the next island of Koh Lanta.
