So 5099 miles and 10 hours later, Frankfurt has finally been reached. The flight wasn’t as bad as I anticipated and I had an aisle seat, which made it that much better. The woman I sat next to was a Finish artist that lives in British Columbia. She was very impressed that the younger, and especially American, generation was taking an interest in learning about the Holocaust. Both meals were good and I watched a few movies and TV shows. I only got about an hour of sleep but I plan to sleep on the next flight (I am really tired). About halfway through the flight, as we were over the Atlantic Ocean between Canada and Greenland, I was able to look out the window and see the Northern Lights with the stars above it; it is one of the top five coolest things I have seen in my life. Upon landing, we loaded onto a bus that drove us clear around the airport to get us over to the section we needed to get to our connecting flight. I must say the Frankfurt airport is one of the biggest ones I have seen.Luckily I did not get lost while I was wandering around the airport. It is interesting to see all of the billboards in Germany and then have a few English words thrown in. Sitting here, there is a group of about fifteen boys (I’m thinking a soccer team), about 8-13, and their families next to me. I love hearing the young kids speak in another language and especially them because they are acting exactly and Jake and all of his friends do. Boys really don’t seem to vary in the different cultures. This layover can’t get done fast enough though; I am ready for a nap.

Luckily a nap was possible on the flight to Berlin even though there was a screaming baby in the seat in front of me; I slept the whole hour and ten minute flight and it was wonderful. I am roommates with the other Alyssa on the trip and we get along really well. Upon arriving at the hotel, we walked around the streets nearby and got a feel for everything (for a good four hours). We had a döner kebab for dinner followed by drinks at the Hard Rock Café near the hostel (I had a Hurricane), where I got carded because I apparently do not look like I am 18. It is raining like crazy here and a little cold, especially at night, but it is great and I am excited to rest up and see everything tomorrow!
