Hearing that people at home are getting hit with snow and wintery conditions, I figured it would be a good time to send you pictures of the Malagasy flora & fauna .

No big lessons here... Just a chance for you to look see what I have been enjoying for the last week during my adventures.

As usual, I don't know what half of them are, but I can appreciate their beauty,

These things were bigger than my head... and I have a big melon!

This was approximately 10 feet tall. The leaves will turn red in May & June here.

It is the poinsettia leaf, but the locals call it the Madagascar plant because if you fold it in half, it is the shape of the island.

This was found in the National Forest. Herman didn't know what it was but insisted I take a picture of it.

These blooms were outside my room in Sainte-Marie.

I was told that the arms of this plant emits a scent that attracts insects. When the insects land, the arms close in and capture the insects... and the plant eats them.

These were found in the rain forest.

This firm plant is call Elephant Ears by the locals for obvious reasons.

I took this to show the moss and ferns that grow on the trunk of a tree that is hundreds of years old.

Apparently lemurs like these red berries.

To show you the conditions in the forest, this picture was taken after 12 noon. When most moisture has evaporated, the plants in the forest were still covered.

Bob and Flora the Explora!
Okay....rub it in. No, you deserve to see and be in the middle of all this beauty. Actually we're fine here weatherwise. Chicago has managed to dodge all of these horrible snowstorms hitting the rest of the country. I hope it stays that way through the New Year. take care my friend and keep having fun! love Jeanne
