Well, since we last wrote we have been to Hue, where we spent some excellent time seeing old tombs, some of which were overgrown and deserted (hence very cool) on our little moped. We also found a hotel room with a DVD player so got a much needed dose of normality by watching our films from China! The weather was seriously hot when we got off the plane (39deg) but thankfully it eased off a little so not to totally kill us.
Then we took the somewhat cramped train (mainly due to the volume of things we have...) along the coast to Danang then a crazed taxi journey to the lovely town of Hoi An, where we are currently having suits made and sorting out photos and relaxing. Last night we went to a superb restaurant to have grilled fish in banana leaf, while an insane electrical storm raged outside.
Hoi An has also confirmed our suspicions from Hue, that wearing helmets on a moped and travelling at around 12 mph is universally hilarious to the Vietnamese. Especially given that my helmet is a Michael Caine number from the Italian Job (apparently that's nonsense says Charlotte).
Yesterday we
parked the moped and took a cab to the Cham ruins at My Son, outside the town, at 7 am to beat the tours and it was lovely. Of course it would have been more lovely had the Yanks not levelled it in the sixties but you can't choose history!
Next, we are off to Na Trang for some R&R.
Love, Hywel & Charlotte
