Sunset at my apartment
Ah, what a morning!

Today was the day that I was completely and totally out of cash. As said earlier, this country runs on cash, so this was a problem for me, particularly because I pick up my alien residence card tomorrow but can't get there unless I have more cash to throw on my train card. So, I set out today thinking it would be easy to find an ATM to give me cash from my American account.

Turns out? Not so much. I was told that 7-11 ATM's would work, but the one I went to rejected my card saying that it couldn't read it. I was like uh-oooooooooooooh, so I went to the bank figuring well, I need to make a bank account anyway, so let's try this. They wouldn't let me get an account until I had my residence card (despite having the CERTIFICATE that SAYS I'll have my residence card once I pick it up, wtf, so freaking stupid, Japan) and the girl, when I asked her about my bank card, took 15 minutes to search and tell me that she THOUGHT the UFJ ATM at the bus terminal would work.

So, I

went to the bus terminal, since I was right near the station. Yeah, UFJ ATM did not work. As I was so close to panicking (OH GOD, NO MONEY), I hit the other ATM in the bus terminal, which BLESSEDLY had an entire option for "card issued overseas" and gave me cash. Of course, the fee was astronomical, but I was so happy to have money again I didn't even care. I got groceries and felt better about life, even if tomorrow I still have to go get my stupid residence card (because heaven forbid they MAIL it or anything convenient, no, no, let's make them COMMUTE into the immigration office) and then STILL have to set up a bank account.

I ended up going back to my park to try to read my Kindle, only I got attacked by mosquitoes! So, I just took a ton of pictures, instead. The spring flowers are gone, and the summer ones are here, and it was very beautiful. 😊

Today was laundry day, so my sheets are hanging on my balcony to dry. It's definitely an air-con day - too hot!! And I only have a four-day work week this

week due to the lead teacher needing a shift swap with me and volunteering to take this Sunday, so hey, that's pretty awesome. 'Course, in October, I'll have a 6-day week to make it even, haha. But that's okay. 😊

Beautiful pictures, Katy
Just got on your blog again. It has been a while. Had about 30 of the family here the last week end in July. Had a great time. Taught a bunch of the grands Garbage. We had people sleeping in every room except kitchen and bath. Two on the deck and one in a car. Missed you. Glad you are liking your new job etc. It must be so beautiful their in Japan. We are getting 4 huge trees in the back yard removed and lots of trimming done on the other trees. Getting so old, they need attention. Love you. Grandma S.
