ICE LETTERBOX
Colins morning walk in Glenn InnesIt’s been a while since the last entry, but forgive me, as ‘the crew’ and myself have been busy doing really cool holiday stuff.
Taking off from the last blog, Glen Innes was to be our next stop. They call it ‘Celtic Country’ and sits 1200meters above sea level. The night temp. went down to minus 8c and daytime around 12c. Colin went for his morning walk and took photos with ice covering the ground and trees. I was tucked away in bed, as was Curtis and Mali also, so we missed that experience. Lucky for the photos. We all tried fossicking in the icy cold water and hopeful but unlucky to find anything of value other than a good time getting our hands dirty.
From there we went to Kyoglie, NSW and spent a day driving thru Borders National Park, a rainforest with the major mountain an ancient volcano and tripped our way to Nimbin town for a look. Curtis hated it. The town with its ‘Happy Hippy Herbs’ store and Bob Marley look-a-like busker singing ‘I like to drink my coffee and smoke my marijuana’ was enough for Curtis to escape in to the car before he

As you can see it was cold was mugged or something. After Colin and I said we didn’t mind it, he pronounced ‘Great my family are Hippie’s.’
The Gold Coast with open money pockets can give you the thrill of a lifetime. For me the thrill was the Sub Penthouse apartment on the 49
th floor, Cavill Avenue, Surfers Paradise. When we arrived the lift was thrilling for us. However that meant nothing when we saw the views from the apartment, which left us speechless for a good ½ hour. We wondered around staring at everything, Curtis reckoned he had never seen anything so flash and announced the rug in the lounge room was the softest we had ever felt. Colin and myself were debating how much the apartment would cost to buy. I said about a million he thought slightly less. Rude shock when we checked out prices in the local real estate. Between 4.5 and 12 million. Anyway we put an offer in, we are still waiting on whether our offer has been accepted. Movieworld, Seaworld, Wet’nWild, Ripley’s Believe or Not Museum, Horse Spectacular, out for dinner, lunch, morning tea, pub drinks, loads of coffee, shopping, Footy at the Gabba, a movie, beach…. blah blah

Curtis the Miner blah. As dad said ‘It was the best holiday he ever had even though the Lions lost to Stkilda’. We all had a great week. Friday night Jessie cooked dinner and we celebrated Colin’s birthday with a cake. Mali blew the candles out over and over again and all were happy and content. We all also spent time with Damien’s family Debbie, Tash and Dana, which were also holidaying for the week and good to meet up with them.
On Sunday we all said our goodbyes and went in different directions. From there Colin, Mali and I moved up to Gladstone QLD. Mining coal and the biggest Aluminum Smelter in the southern hemisphere are the claims to fame, the air was thick and we were happy to move on.
Mackay QLD our next stop. Spent a day in a rain forest, did a tour in a sugar mill and drove around the region with the mountains surrounding us, sleepy country towns and cane fields for miles. Colin also got his first speeding fine at $200 and is still wondering whether he did the wrong thing or not which blew the budget for a couple of days. We also

The beauty was amazing spent Colin’s true birthday in Mackay and celebrated with a chocolate muffin, candles and a singing dog card Mali choose for him. Mali still cracks himself up about every-time he opens it.
Currently in Townsville QLD were the weather is around 25c and still cold at night. The best weather we have had so far and looking forward to creeping up to Cairns a little bit more North and hopefully warmer again. Hope everyone is well, Mali is experiencing homesickness every couple of days. He says he misses his toys and Chilli. Colin and I are happy hippies seeing new sights and sounds with the knowledge we are back in Carnarvon town in 24 days time.
