Our new digs in Ko Pha Ngan
Our room... We all stayed in the same room for the first time on our trip Hey everyone
I last left off with us getting into Ko Pha Ngan after spending about 5 days in Ko Phi Phi, and having a blast doing it! I got a bunch of comments saying how the pictures didn't turn out, which sucks big time since I paid like 180 baht updating the blog that day... Oh well...
So where to start with Ko Pha Ngan... It was good times, that's for sure. We arrived on June 30th after it had already gotten dark and spent the night at this place called Oasis Bungalows which was on the sunset side of Haad Rin. This side of the Haad Rin is known to be a little more calm than the other side, which is where the Full Moon Party occurs. We stayed there for the night and walked around the town for a bit, but we were all pretty bagged from spending the entire day travelling from Ko Phi Phi to Ko Pha Ngan by ferry, bus, mini-bus, mini-bus, and another ferry... Then a taxi... Then walking with our packs... It was a long day...
We spent the night, only to be woken up by the stupid rooster at
like 5:30am the next morning... I am POSITIVE that it was underneathe one of our bungalows... So not cool... That morning we went on a mission to find a different place to stay because the place we were at, none of us were really all that happy with... It was actually the FIRST place that we stayed at without a flush toilet. Raj wasn't pleased ONE BIT about this... Haha... Suck it up, princess 😉 Oh well... We ended up finding a bugalow not even 50 meters from our original place, only this place was like SOOO much better... The 4 of us were able to stay in the same room, and split the 800 baht per night price tag. So we ended up paying like $5 CDN a night, if that...
The view from our room was AMAZING. We were right in front of this beach (although the beach was really kinda gross littered with garbage) but the view of the ocean was breath taking. I swear I could sit in that hammock all day, just looking out at the ocean because it was so calm and peaceful.
The second day in Ko Pha Ngan was Canada
Day! Woohoo! We rocked the Canada tattoos and headed on out. I bet everyone that saw us thought we were total freaks because England was playing Portugal that night in the World Cup. Us, being the goof balls that we are, sat right in front of the projection screen in this pub... Full of England fans, and were kinda sorta cheering for Portugal in a way... Why were we cheering for Portugal? I have no idea... I think we were mainly cheering for a really good game, so we were neutral... It's just that it was more fun cheering for the team that everyone was rooting against... Gotta root for the underdogs, ya know? Hah... During the shootout, I would keep looking back at all the England fans, and Raj was getting REALLY mad at me... Hah... Once the game ended, and Portugal won, we booked it on outta there as FAST as we possibly could... Hah... We headed down to the beach to try and find ourselves from Canadians to party with. We only met 1 canadian in the pub we were watching the game in because she commented on the tattoos we were rockin...
Down on the
beach, we were havin fun tunin back some good ol Sang Som buckets, having some beers, and just trying to find some Canadians to celebrate Canada Day with. Well... We managed to find 4. The girl from the pub and her friend, and these 2 guys from Vancouver that were in the bungalow next to us... I swear, Ko Pha Ngan was like 99% european, so it made it pretty tough to find Canadians... So we did the next best thing. We recruited people to be official Canadians for the night! We went walking around asking people if they supported Canada or liked Canadians, and if they did, we gave em a tattoo and told them to come and drink with us! Hah... Our group didn't get THAT much bigger... We found a group of Irish girls that rocked some tattoos, and I found a couple of Swedish girls that wanted to support Canada on Canada Day as well! It was good times... We managed to spend the entire time partying on the beach, and walked back to the room after the sun had already come up. Canada Day ended up being a success.
After Canada Day, things were
The Nopporn Pharmacy
Will and Raj were rather disappointed that there was in fact, no porn... pretty much the same every day... Wake up around noon, eat breakfast around 2pm... Chill for a bit... Maybe have a siesta between 6 and 8, go out for dinner... Have some more drinks and party on the beach... It was always a good time in Ko Pha Ngan.
One day, Raj and Bryan decided to rent a bike and a scooter and motored around the island for a bit... Hah... Will and I just chilled and kicked back.
My last couple of days there were nice and chill... We got to watch the World Cup semi-finals on the beach and partied some more.
The last night I was there, we all just kicked back at the bungalow and had some shakes and just relaxed... I wanted to enjoy my last night in Thailand with the boys instead of headin down to the beach for another nite of a rage partying and listening to the same music play over and over and over... Hah... I counted Gnarles Barkley - Crazy played 4 or 5 times in one night... And they play the same music every night! Heh... Still tons of fun though. They don't play stupid music
like they do back home... They manage to stay away from the 80s music, which I thought was AWESOME!
I ended up leaving Ko Pha Ngan by myself on July 7th. I caught the ferry from there to Ko Samui, and waited in the Ko Samui airport for roughly 3.5 hours. The airport was kinda cool. It was totally open air, and you could see the airplanes take off and land. If a plane were to crash, yer totally F***ED though... Hah...
I landed in the Bangkok airport around midnight and had to lug my bag from the domestic arrivals to the International departures, which I swear took me like 15 mins and was like a 2km walk! I talked to the lady and asked if I could get a window seat, and she bumped me up to business class for my flight from Bangkok to Shanghai... Business Class... Ahhh... I felt so special! Haha... It was SOOOOO NICE! I actually slept the ENTIRE flight from Bangkok to Shanghai!
I then had a 7 hour layover in the Shanghai airport, which is swear is the MOST BORING AIRPORT I've ever been in. Everything there was insanely over
priced... I paid $3USD for a Snickers bar... And no, it wasn't the best Snickers bar ever... Hah... Oh well... I think I bought a tiny bottle of water for like $4USD as well (I switched all my remaining Thai money to USD just for the airport)... Shanghai Airport... Expensive and boring :P
I finally arrived at my house around 3pm PST... I think my total travel time ended up being like 35 hours or longer. It was really wierd to arrive back in Canada at a time BEFORE I left Shanghai... I left Shanghai at 2pm on Saturday and arrived in Vancouver at 10:30am Saturday... Wierd.
So ya... I'm back home now. I wish I was still travelling with the guys. They're going to try and update this blog from time to time, so if you wanna keep receiving emails don't unsubscribe.
To everyone I met along the way, you've all been awesome. I wish meeting people back home was HALF as easy as it was meeting people in Thailand.
