Hi All!

First, pardon any typos because this keyboard is different.

We arrived yesterday, Tuesday after a bit of trouble. After receiving a call from American Airlines at 3:30am that our first flight would be delayed with a new arrival time of 6:40, I realized we would never make our connection at 6:50. I called American and they got us on a Delta flight: Philadelphia to Atlanta, Atlanta to Miami and then our orginal flight Miami to Guayaquil. Our first flight was at 11:45. We had to make quick changes at each airport but we actually made it all the way here, and so did our luggage!!!

Our host families picked us up at the airport. Melissa, the other student from my school, is staying in the same house as me. Our host mom is Alicia, dad is Juan Carlos and there is a 7 year old sister and 12 year old brother. Melissa and I have bedrooms separated by our own bathroom. I attached some pictures of the house.

The house is very basic. Cement floor and aluminium roof with cement walls separating the rooms. My room has bunk beds and a small desk with a TV on it (no word if the TV works). I slept under a mosquito net for the first time in my life last night! It wasn´t as scary as I thought it would be. It´s really unseasonably hot here. It´s so sticky, especially with bug spray on all the time. I will definitely miss the air conditioning.

It seems as though Dr. Aguiere, our leader here, is away on business for the week. We´re not sure if we will be able to volunteer anywhere until he returns. I hope we can because after one day of nothing to do I´m pretty bored. Hopefully our host moms will take us into the city (or show us how to get there) so we can explore tomorrow.

Re:
Glad you made it there, despite the confusing flights! I love the pictures -- the bedroom is just like you described it. Have fun!

Are you there to do volunteer medical work? If so, was it planned through your school? Good luck without the ac. I will follow your posts. I hope you have a great time!
