Oh Canada!
Best Canada Day ever ... ok so it was really my only canada day ever but I think it would be hard to top if I had to do it again...
Lindsay had to work at 10am that day so we headed downtown early to Canada Place for our 'free' pancake breakfast which was actually $2.50 but we will forgive the Canadian's for missing the definition of 'free' as they were probablly all drunk and I'm sure the money will go to saving bears or something... Anyway pancakes and sausages and juice went down well - so well I did round two with Mandy and Johnno a little later in the morning.
It turned into a beautiful summer day and the little town of Banff put on plenty of entertainment for the swarms of tourists and locals. We ate cotton candy, painted an Australian-Canadian tribute to the occasion on the pavement and generally chilled for the afternoon.
There were some mounties walking around so as soon as we saw them we chased them down to get a photo - what sort of australian would I be if I passed up that opportunity! Unfortunately the stories aren't true
and not all mounties are young and good looking. I would have loved to get them to pose a little more 'postcard worthy' but they were pretty straight, happy enough to have their photo taken, just cant say I 'mounted the mounties' ha ha!
I had to work at 2.30pm but it was so quiet we were finished by 8.30pm - enough time to do some serious pre-drinking before heading downtown again for the fireworks. Because the sun doesn't set until 10pm here the fireworks weren't until 11pm which worked out perfectly. I have to say I was impressed by the display too - much better than I expected for Banff!
Later on we headed out for the night. I had made the decision that I was going to do four nights in a row in tribute to the Canada Day long weekend, so Sat night was night 3 and I can proudly say I made it out all four nights, Thurs to Sunday - that's what Aussie breeding can do for you 😉
So the day was great! Photo with mounties, fairy floss, alberta beef, canadian tattoos, flags, beer and pancakes. I just hope you all
took the opportunity to crack open a coldie in tribute!
