Woke up and it was very windy again. Checked with the DEC office to see which snorkeling sites were recommended given the high winds, choppy seas and big swell (2 aspects of reading the weather bulletins which I have never previously payed much attention to). Turquoise Bay was the suggestion, but the beach snorkel, not the drift snorkel. So, off we went to the West side of the peninsula, and there was the Ningaloo Reef, the largest 'fringing' reef in Australia. We had great snorkeling. My new prescription snorkel mask was worth every penny. So was the more expensive snorkel with the one way valve so that the waves constantly breaking my head (see 'big swell'😉 didn't drown me! There are no underwater pictures you will note. I am much too busy breathing andlooking to cope with an underwater camera!

The national park sites here are beautiful. These were basic but beautiful. I like the emphasis on people taking their own rubbish home with them, rather than having overflowing bins for the rangers to empty. The toilet at this place was an 'Eco-loo'. I liked the sign, particularly the ambiguous but sufficient second instruction on the list.

We were the second last family to leave the beach, which put us on the highway just before sundown, or, the 'roo witching hour. In addition to 'Roos, we saw emus and some kind of eagle. Then we stopped and looked at the outside of Vlaming Head Lighthouse... Built in 1912. Have any of you found out yet why we should be saying "As mad as a lighthouse keeper?" And an evening out with Susan just would not be complete without a sunset photo!

Before we left Exmouth there was one more sign I needed to photograph: that of the Thirsty Camel. since Exmouth I have seen a few more of these establishments, but this was the first 'Drive-through' liquor store known as a bottle shop (and we aren't discussing milk bottles) that I had seen. Who knew that buying booze could be such an urgent affair!
