Next we traveled to a small town called "Dali". I think this was one of our favorite times on the trip. It was interesting and beautiful. The sun shown over mountains and a beautiful lake. The breeze blew warm and free on our faces. The air felt clean, which in China... is a treat. We ate good food and hiked around a bit. We were all shopped out from the last town, so we did not go into many shops, but instead turned our wants over to less material things- like viewing mountains and pagodas. We spent the night at a very nice hotel and woke up early the next morning to take the cable car up the mountain our flight. It was like living in a postcard. Even the taxis were clean. 😊
This trip concludes pictures of my mom's visit to China. I missed home so much more in some ways after she arrived. It was nice to be able to talk about all sorts of familiar (and perhaps folksy) things about Grand Rapids. It made me miss home a lot; especially the people. But having her near me also made me miss home less. In a lot
of ways, home is where your mom is... so having her with me was like being home. But it made me miss Eliot and Meredith very sharply. For my 20th birthday (which is this coming friday) my dad sent along a book on tape he made for me of "The Horse and His Boy" which I listened to while driving through the mountains of Tibet (pictures in the next post). It is so nice to love one's family. I wished my mom did not ever have to leave. She was such a trooper and a traveler and it was so exciting to experience China with her 😊
